This thread is for coins you find in, on, under, or around coin handling machines such as CoinStar, Coinmaster, auto-sorting machines in banks, payphones, and vending machines. Please add your story!)

At the supermarket again. Habitually stopped by the Coinstar machine, and stooped to pick up a dime on the floor. That's when I noticed that the reject tray was full of dimes. Visions of silver dimes filled my head! I looked around to see if someone had just walked away from the machine, but there was no sign that anyone had been using it in the last few minutes, so I scooped away.

Well, no silver, just:
20 dimes (1970-2002)
4 nickels (1984-1996)
1 Canadian dime (1982)
----------------------------
US$2.20 + CAN$0.10

The first Canadian non-penny I've seen in the wild in years. Meh, $2.20 for free... I can't complain. I hope no one else is complaining that their dimes disappeared.

EDIT: As your responses so quickly pointed out, that "10" should have been a "20". I blame the error on that bugged Canuck dime planting subliminal messages in my head.

From the magnet:

United States, 1 cent (1943, too rusted to determine mintmark, if any)
Canada, 1 cent (2003-P)
Canada, 10 cents (1983, 1984, 1985, 1999 x2, 2002-P)
Canada, 25 cents (1989, 1994 x2, 1999 August, 2006-P, 2008 freestyle skiing)
Belgium, 2 eurocents (2000)
Brazil, 25 centavos (1994, 2003)
Germany, 1 pfennig (1950-F, 1950-G, 1985-F)
Great Britain, 1 penny (2007)
Mexico, 2 pesos (2001)
Mexico, 5 pesos (2003)
1 metal slug
1 safety pin
------------------------------------------------------------------------
USD 0.01 + CAD 2.01 + EUR 0.02 + BRL 0.50 + GBP 0.01 + MXN 7.00 = USD$2.92

From the magnet and reject tray:

Bolivia, 5 centavos (1987)
Bolivia, 20 centavos (1987, 1991, 1995)
Bolivia, 50 centavos (2006)
Bolivia, 1 boliviano (2008 x3)
Bolivia, 5 bolivianos (2004)
Italy, 5 eurocents (2007)
Mexico, 1 peso (1998)
Chucky Cheese, 1 token (2001)
---------------------------------------
BOB 9.15 + EUR 0.05 + MXN 1.00 = USD $1.47

Unrelatedly, as I was helping my friend remodel his house, I found a 1991 Canadian cent behind a baseboard as it was ripped out.

Trash bin inside of the coin machine. Does anyone know where the Chumash Casino is?

Here's a CoinStar tactic I've taken to doing.

When you step up to the machine, most of us just check the reject tray and keep walking. But lately, I've been running the machine. You don't need to put any of your own money into it. Simply press the green button, follow the on-screen prompts, and see what happens. Odds are there will be some loose change in the sorting drum still kicking around from the machine's last user. Any residual coins in the machine that finish processing through will be credited to you. Even with the 9% fee, it's still free money.

I've done this a few times, and already racked up over $4.50 in "winnings". Plus I get to keep whatever falls into the reject tray. Last time it gave me some beat-up dimes and a 2005 Trinidad & Tobago cent.

Reject tray score from the Coinstar. 43 coins for $2.31. One of them was a 1962 silver quarter.

Found a lone arcade token in my local green machine's reject tray. I won't reject it!

does this count?

a couple of weeks ago i went to one of my dump banks to cash in some junkiron dimes. didn't even think to check the reject tray (which i usually do before i start dumping). after a few minutes of dumping i reached down to check the reject tray and found a couple of dimes in there. i scooped them out and tossed them onto the coin counter tray and almost tipped it to slide them in when i spied a merc sitting right on top. hmmmm...wait a minute. did i overlook that in my search or did someone else leave that in there?

needless to say i scooped it out of the coin counter and quickly pocketed it. and i'm telling myself that somebody else left in the machine! LMAO!!!

Hi Everyone, :D I'm new, but have been reading the wonderful posts before signing up. Today after work I stopped in one of the stores that has a Coin-star machine, this is the 3rd time I checked one of the machines. Last week I found a Canadian penny, is also one I needed to fill a hole in the album . And today I find 3 clad dimes in the reject slot, a 1986-D, 1998-P and a 2008-P. Not bad for a beginner.

I used "the claw" (a spring loaded nut pick up tool ) to reach down thru the holes in the money chute to the junk pan below -- and extracted a nice gold ball post earring for my efforts  ;D

I found a 14k gold ring in the penny arcade coin machine last week. the machine was making noise after my coins were done and the teller opened it up and I saw a ring jammed in there. He took it out and handed it to me.

Checked the coinstar reject bin at the grocery store this week and found a handful.

1 Euro (Netherlands)
3 Canadian Quarters
2 Canadian Dimes
1 1955 Canadian Dime (1st silver from coinstar)
6 Zincolns
1 New Hampshire Highway token
1 Rhode Island token
1 Jefferson nickel
2 Roosevelt dimes
And finally the best - an old squirting nickel. Didn't know what to make of it till I posted it to an error forum and sure enough the thing shoots water a few feet!

Had a good laugh at that. Thought I had a genuine double planchet for a minute there!
