This thread is for coins you find in, on, under, or around coin handling machines such as CoinStar, Coinmaster, auto-sorting machines in banks, payphones, and vending machines. Please add your story!)

At the supermarket again. Habitually stopped by the Coinstar machine, and stooped to pick up a dime on the floor. That's when I noticed that the reject tray was full of dimes. Visions of silver dimes filled my head! I looked around to see if someone had just walked away from the machine, but there was no sign that anyone had been using it in the last few minutes, so I scooped away.

Well, no silver, just:
20 dimes (1970-2002)
4 nickels (1984-1996)
1 Canadian dime (1982)
----------------------------
US$2.20 + CAN$0.10

The first Canadian non-penny I've seen in the wild in years. Meh, $2.20 for free... I can't complain. I hope no one else is complaining that their dimes disappeared.

EDIT: As your responses so quickly pointed out, that "10" should have been a "20". I blame the error on that bugged Canuck dime planting subliminal messages in my head.

And... how do you get a look in the reject bucket on the inside?

Thanks in advance

Every time I fill a bag, the teller has to remove it and put new one in. While she has the machine open, you can see the inside reject tray. I always ask to empty the contents. Mostly get beat up pennies and dimes, dirt and candy wrappers, a couple pins, screws, paper clips etc. One machine rejected $20 of my coins into it. I'm glad I got those back. I hate to hear one or more of my coins hitting that reject tray, especially if I don't fill the bag and get a look at what the machine is stealing from me. But on the bright side, I almost always find coins in, or under the machine.

At my CU on Friday, the reject tray had 3 quarters, 3 pennies, 1 Mexican Peso, and a Canadian Quarter

While dumping, I found these in the reject tray:

Canada, 1 cent (1991)
France, 5 eurocents (2002)
Switzerland, 10 rappen (1962)

Unrelatedly, I found a 1945 wheat penny on the sidewalk outside the Post Office on Monday.

I checked the reject tray in a Coinstar machine today and got a surprise! There was a handful of change! I scooped it out and got 2 quarters, 2 dimes, 1 nickle, 24 zinc pennies and 8 copper pennies! $1.07 in change. There was no silver except 1 of the dimes which was a 1915 Barber dime! Someone had drilled a hole in it but I still thought it was a pretty neat find! 8)

My first silver find at the Coinstar.
Congrats on your first free silver. Also congrats to Mark on the 'Heroes of Desert Storm 1991" $5 coin. Beats the heck out of my .22 cents yesterday.

Canada, 25 cents (2006-RCM)
Belgium, 5 eurocents (2003)
France, 1 eurocent (2004)
Germany, 2 eurocents (2002-D, 2002-G)
Germany, 5 eurocents (2002-F)
Great Britain, 1 penny (1988)
Italy, 1 eurocent (2002)
Italy, 2 eurocents (2002)
Netherlands, 25 cents (1963)
Russia, 10 rubles (1993)
South Africa, 20 cents (1997)

Every now and then, I cycle nickels through a vending machine at work, and infrequently I find an old Jeff. Normally I don't post my finds from this method as they are unspectacular nickels such as the 1940-P. But yesterday I got a 1955-P nickel, and any nickel with a mintage of less than 8 million is worth writing TNet about.
