Today I detected a couple of sidewalk reconstruction projects. Among the coins found were an 1877 Carson City Seated dime, a scarce date 1872 H Canadian dime, an 1865 2 cent piece, six Indianhead cents, one V nickel, and a Mercury dime.
The first picture shows what the street looked like. The house in the background, behind the pine tree, was built in 1865. The church across the street was built in 1876.
The Mercury dime came out of the ground encased inside a clump of dirt. When I broke the clump you could see the reverse side of a Mercury dime.
