Today I detected a couple of sidewalk reconstruction projects. Among the coins found were an 1877 Carson City Seated dime, a scarce date 1872 H Canadian dime, an 1865 2 cent piece, six Indianhead cents, one V nickel, and a Mercury dime.
The first picture shows what the street looked like. The house in the background, behind the pine tree, was built in 1865. The church across the street was built in 1876.
The Mercury dime came out of the ground encased inside a clump of dirt. When I broke the clump you could see the reverse side of a Mercury dime.

Great finds!
I haven't had the pleasure of a construction
hunt, but am always keeping my eyes open
for the opportunity.

Man, do I miss finding sites like yours. Good stuff!
Carl

You are doing pretty well there, I love the CC Seated Liberty Dime!

Wow!, Great site and some awesome finds,,, Congrats!!!
Continued Good luck, & Happy hunting~

they just ripped out a road that was one of the first paved roads in jasksonville, florida of course under the modern pavement was the big old red brinks they used in 1911 to pave the "original" road with ---they tore out both the modern and old road up --- I was happy as can be knowing that I was hitting virgin ground that had never been detected before -- plus the road before being paved at all -- was used by union forces during a retreat from a nearby civil war skirmish action to boot -- didn't find too much but the thought of what could have been there boggles the mind --- Ivan

Great digs, congrats!!!

Nice...congrats on the key date 1872 dime. I recently found one and sold it for $400.00! Not a bad return on a dime!

This is why, I say, no matter where you are, just take your machine along with you, you never know what you will find, I tried a park a few weeks back, but ended up finding lots of pull tabs, bottle tops and junk, but hey who knows what the next hole will bring, I really like the Indian head coins, great stuff.

Great finds. I am originally from Watkins, Minnesota. I graduated from Kimball in 1981. Now I am in Goldsboro, NC. Great finds. I loved detecting in Minnesota back when I was in high school. The coins came out looking great. Here in NC, copper coins come out in horrible shape. That MN soil is great, alot less acidic as this sandy mess here in NC. Bryan

Congrats on the great finds! That sure looks like a great site to hunt! I really like the old silver.

Do you plan on going back? Good hunting.
