if I am correct, the specimen quarter has a moreless frosted background with shiny raised points where the normal quarter is just shiny all around?

nice finds!

Correct. Also the proof quarter has mirror background, but frosted foreground, so pretty much specimen in vice versa.

I don't think it matters if you buy $100 of quarters or $1,000 of quarters but they always are a bust in terms of silver. Although I do buy $100 worth occasionally if i am looking for the newest commemorative or just oddities. Nice specimen. You haven't ever found the elusive 1991 have you?

Not yet. Haven't seen you in a while my fellow hunter. How are your penny boxes are going? Any new IH or 2012 mint rolls?

Another 200$ searched

Here are the results for another 200$ worth batch and the requested pics of colourized quarters.

Is that a copper quarter error in the second pic? It looks like it, but the pic would fit in to make it be the nickel specimen.

nice finds in the $200 batch, interesting colored quarters, do you know how the canadian mint colorizes the quarters? is it paint, colored metal, plastic? just curious as I am ignorant to that type of stuff.

Yes it is just the lighting. As you can see on the next pic, it doesn't have that copperish hue. I was really surprised to find an AU and specimen in one bundle, both being of the same date.

I think the apply something, like plastic, to the coins, the ones I have, the center or colorized part feels plastickey (only the Breast Cancer and Armistice Day ones, I didn't touch the poppies as the coin was in so great condition).
