My wife and I were MD’ing a new spot alongside the Conrad Hilton Hotel in San Juan yesterday when Manuel approached us asking for help. He had been driving by, seen us and jumped out of his car leaving it and his wife basically in the road. It seems that two weeks ago while setting up for a video production in the Botanical Gardens in Caguas, Puerto Rico, he had lost his wedding ring. As a recent newlywed, he had been anxiously trying to find someone with a metal detector and had even tried to buy a used detector from someone on the U.S. mainland but they wouldn’t ship it to Puerto Rico. We decided to meet Sunday morning and drove about 20 minutes to the Botanical Gardens where Manuel had arranged for the staff to let us in before opening time so we could detect unmolested. I started up the DFX, made a few swings and got a signal. A little digging and up popped his wedding ring. Manuel and his wife both got on the phone to tell their parents the good news and how quick it had been found, (even I was surprised). When I handed him back his ring you could tell how emotional he felt about finding it again. The end result was that they treated my wife and I to a great Sunday brunch and on leaving, I know that this couple will always have a great story to tell in the future about the “lost” wedding ring.
