My Small Louisiana Collection

I spend most of my time in the bottle and metal detector forums but i do come to this forum now and then to see all the terrific finds. I have not done any native american hunting in roughly 15 years. I have held on to my collection and it has endured moving 6 times and be handled by many people. I thought what the heck, i'll download some photos and share them with everyone else. All these were found in northeastern Louisiana by me. Nothing fantastic here to show but they were all found by me and i can't begin to tell you how many hours i spent putting this small collection together. Not shown is a 5 gallon bucket of pottery shards and 2 grinding stones that i somehow lost moving from place to place. The dime is for size comparison

Your area has some of the smallest, neatest points! Nice collection.

Thanks for the compliments. Only 2 points came from plowed farmland. The rest came from a lake bank where the timber company clearcut that area. The only exception is the Poverty Point projectile. I found it about 60 miles from the others. It was found in the bank of Bayou Macon which is the east border of Poverty Point Site. ... These small points were like looking for a needle in a haystack. Note the very small one in the 1st photo, about half the size of a dime. Thanks again everyone and happy hunting

Very nice honest collection.
Sometimes the sum is worth more than the parts.
That one is beautiful but sure looks out of place.
A thought just crossed my mind when looking at that tiny point....
"How small and thin was the shaft?"
"How short would it have had to have been in order not to whip around like willow a twig?"
"How small was the bow?"
.... Then I thought... I wonder if they used blow darts....Hmmmm.

They used blow darts here in this area. They have a reproduction of one in a museum here where I live at.

I don't know. Blows my mind every time i look at it. When i found it, i was hunting with a friend. When he saw it he laughed and said "must have been made by a jeweler"

I have one I found here last yr and took it to get a I.D. on it at a show. The expert said yeah its worked but I dont know why it is so small. The locals here call them fish points.

I'd be real proud of eyeballing that one.. seems like a sifter would be needed to find them that small.
I like the mercury dime too.

Fishing weirs and nets were commonly used.. it makes no sense to try to hit one fish at a time.
IMO.
I doubt a point was ever found in a fish skeleton.. Probably just a misconception Or a coined term started by a collector.
.. is that bi-facial rock?
It looks like a little flake blade to me.

Its a uni facial point. Im thinking a dart point.
