Number six Silver Dollar !!!

Headed back to the demolition site where I found the other Silver Dollars. After hunting it with three different detectors, I wasn't expecting much. Got one of those "iffy" signals among the iron trash. Knowing my luck on this site, I decided to dig it. ANOTHER Silver Dollar in as good of a condition as the previous ones. On top of that, I found a V Nickel and a toasted Indian Head Penny.

I can't get over how good this site has been and I haven't even started hunting the curb strip. The curb strip is wide and it is a corner lot. Needless to say, I will be going back. If I don't find another coin at this site I am HAPPY !!

If you had talked to the people who were there when they demolished the house who said it was "raining" coins and collected many coins and jewelry pieces from on top of the ground, you might get the picture. Obviously the old people who had lived there collected the coins and had them stashed somewhere in the house. When they died no one knew they were there. The demolition people hauled dirt in and spread it over the lot. I have only found what was not picked off the ground during demolition. I hope some day you will have the good fortune of being able to have that find of a lifetime and have someone question your "story". Happy Hunting !!

Glad, you told your story. I know people in the demo business, and have seen their treasures, found while doing a demo. One friend found 10 Russian, gold coins... Wish I was detecting then... I have been detecting 27 years now, and I head to any place that just got tore down.. lot's of trash and faulty hits, but, worth the time and digging... Good for you, hope you find some more silver, and maybe gold there... Ray from upstate NY

Great finds!!! I found, on a Civil War battlefield, 7 quarters, 2 half dimes and 23 dimes and they came out of the ground looking like they had just fallen out of someone's pocket. When I found them they had been laying in the ground for 140+ years. Dates ranged form 1836-1860. Now that they are out of the ground and in little holders they have tarnished. No doubt in my mind the finds are legit...d2

To me, your story is not hard to believe at all. I have found 4 Morgans myself over the years, although mine were all found in fields at different times. I also hunt demo homes (usually old homesteads) and can see the potential for coins like you have found. I also know of a heavy equipment operator in my area who was leveling out the dirt after an old home was demolished. As he was pushing the dirt he broke open a container and noticed discs on the ground. After getting out of his tractor to inspect, he proceeded to pick up 22 yes i said 22 its not a typo, $5.00 and $10.00 gold pieces ! Since he was also the owner of the property, they belonged to him, and yes he did call a few people out with metal detectors to see if there were any more hidden. Nice job, and I hope you come across some more at your place.

Congrats and the way you described why those coins are there is exactly why they are there! The owners didn't tell anyone about the cache.

Congratulations on some amazing coins! Demolition sites are the way to go, especially when they spread the dirt out for you. You always seem to find something, sometimes they churn it up a few times putting in lines or landscaping. I hope you will find more, the condition is incredible!

Amazing. That's a lot of luster on a coin that's been in the ground. What kind of soil is it? Sandy, red, black loamy, dry desert? That's amazing condition. I only find clad, but I'm always amazed at how each site affects the coins differently. The field I was in last night turns every "silver" clad coin RED. Bright brilliant red... Quarters and dimes... all red... It's so weird. I have another field I go to, and the coins have the same lustery look as your silver dollar, even if they're 2" underground.

Such a cool site you've got there. Keeper for sure! Sure beats blackened silver coins!

I don't think the soil had anything to do with the condition. I figure that the Silver Dollars had only been in the ground since the demolition of the house. Also, the fact that the ground was soaked by Hurricane Matthew might have helped. I figure they were in the ground no more than three weeks. The soil in Portsmouth is very easy on silver coins. Not so much on copper or clad. Having hunted around salt water, I know about that "black silver".

Good for you man digging all of that silver. I hear a lot of talk on your thread about mint luster, but after you explained the home demo, hopefully people will now know why they look so nice.

I didn't mean for mine to sound condescending I had just said there was a lot of luster and then put my phone down and went to look for my coins last night that I was going to take a picture of the luster on one of mine and when I woke up this morning I see some people went too far and mine got removed.
