Important Notice: Public Hearing on DEP Rules for Use Of Water Supply Lands & Waters
Public meetings and an opportunity to comment on proposed amendments to Chapter 16 of Title 15 of the Rules of the City of New York: Rules for the recreational use of water supply lands and waters will be held as follows:
Putnam County Training & Operations Building, 112 Old Route 6, Carmel, NY on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 7:00pm – 9:00pm
NYCDEP – 6th Floor Lecture Room, 59-17 Junction Blvd., Flushing, NY on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 10:00am – 12:00pm
Belleayre Ski Mountain (Garden Room), 181 Galli Curci Road, Highmount, NY on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 7:00pm – 9:00pm
Anyone wishing to pre-register to speak must give written notice to Melissa Siegel, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Bureau of Legal Affairs, 19th Floor, 59-17 Junction Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11373. Please include a telephone number where you can be reached during normal working Hours. Speakers will be limited to 10 minutes.
Persons who wish to comment on the proposal in writing must submit written comments to Melissa Siegal at the above address on or before July 7, 2008.
This is our opportunity to be heard and maybe open up lands to detecting. We are no different than hunters, fisherman and hikers. The more of us that attend one of these meetings the better. These rules cover NYC Watershed properties and water in the following counties;
Delaware
Dutchess
Greene
Orange
Putnam
Schoharie
Sullivan
Ulster

"open up those lands to detecting"? Are they off-limits to detecting as it stands now? I mean, is that actually written somewhere? Or did someone just ask years ago, and got a "no"? (just curious)
