that disabled veteran tag was a key chain fob that used to have a copy of an automobile license plate in it. the veterans used to use dmv records and send out exact copies of your license plate on a key chain in hopes that you would return a donation. I think they quit making those in the 70's. complete ones are collectable and you can find many listed on feebay.
I have several of them. They went to all plastic towards the end. The one I remember most is California NGK 657. Went to our 57 Nomad Chev Station wagon when I was a kid. I have often wondered if any keys were ever returned. And in the days before computers, how long did it take someone to call from the organization, have someone go through the files and find the tag information? Forever, in comparison to today, I guess.
