So basically the areas I would be doing my detecting would be the areas around my home.

But before I actually by a detector, I wanted to see if the area around my home ever actually had any kind of history, other than just being a giant forest..

Does anybody know where I could find some old maps or charts? Or even a place that holds historical info as far areas which held some kind of historical importance and one time or anothe?

I'm pretty new to this as well but I did a deed search on my house and adjoining wooded area in Lunenburg Ma. I went to Mass department of deeds and traced my area all the way back to when the Shakers owned the area. You can do this at home on the internet and its all free. Hope this helps. If you need any help give me an email. Like I said I'm new to this as well.
