I I have been doing some prospecting up in the Goodyear Arizona area an came across a big chunk of bluish quartz that had a bunch of oxidized material on it so I through in the truck. Along with some other finds I will post pics of them later ha. So I soaked it and gave it a nice scrub and noticed how heavy and dense it was and that it felt like it was full of some kind of mineral. So I pulled out the loop and did I little investigation, low and behold I start seeing some a bunch of like sheets of gold looking material. And instantly I remembered the article I was reading about Crystaline Gold and it's different forms. So I went hmm I wonder, I took a few off , I posted pics of them. And soaked it them in hcl overnight. Looked at them the next day and instantly new I had something good .
Not only it's it the size of a grapefruit but it weighs about 3 to 4 pounds and seems like the possible gold is coming out crime every inch of it. I still have a lot more cleaning to do on it but I just wanted to get some T net brothers opinions and what would be best cleaning wise and yes I will def be getting it assayed. Sorry for the long story haha and thanks for your help. Aloha

Well chriseneim,
It looks interesting. I would ask if "safely" applying a knife blade to the goldish looking color portion of the sample if you can cut slivers off of it. It should not crumble are break off but the knife should just cut into it. Or if some of those pieces I see in the scrub bowl can be crushed or if when struck by a hammer they flatten out.

If you can readily cut it or if it smashes and flattens out without going to dust then you could indeed have something. I'm hoping for all tests to be positively in your favor!...........................63bkpkr

Like 63bkpkr said, try the hammer test. It's the easiest way to find out if it's gold or not.

Nice work. (I use the term work loosely) I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread cuz I have some chunks from a tailing pile that need some cleaning also. It's finds like yours that keep our wives less upset.

Sorry but it doesn't look like gold me. :(
your right if your only looking for the obvious characteristics of gold but when you look a little harder then the surface you will see that there is most def somthing good hiding under the oxidization. Is like to hear how you can make a judgement if there is gold or not from a picture? ..

I've got a small piece of bornite that very much resembles your rocks but I'm far from an expert.

Up around the barkerville area of Bc the gold often looks as though it has a coating on it , and it does look alot like that stuff you have there.

I like your enthusiastic attitude chriseneim, - its guys like you who manage to come up with good stuff through power of will. I'm sure many have heard the old stories about "sending the greenhorn on a wild-goose chase up the mountain, and the new guy discovers a fabulous gold deposit" (the Vulture mine in AZ
has this "discovery" story attached to it, if I 'member correct). Anyhoo, hope an assay proves your optimism is well rewarded.:icon_thumright:

thanks brotha. It's comments like yours that keep the stoke alive. I would think prospecting is about believing there could be instead of crushing a beginners excitement and always saying it's not and couldn't be gold because I have never seen it look like that. My thoughts on gold and where it could be found are wide open and ready to discover where ever it may be. I thought the saying was gold is where you find it ha? Thanks for enthusiasm.

That is pretty sick. I see you are all over the place. Where to next? I am itching to get out this weekend and do some drywashing. Interested?

Did a scratch test and looks good but all your opinions matter the most so let me know what you think.

It's my opinion and just that. This isn't the first time you've thought you found gold so I'm extra skeptical. Don't take my opinion personal. I could be wrong and I hope I am.

I made my guess based on my knowledge and your description and pictures. Your described sheeting sounds more like mica. Crystalline gold most often forms in open inclusions in the host rock. I don't see any open pockets on your rock. In most cases you don't have to soak the rock to see the gold. Sometimes you do. Broken down sulphides, oxide coatings, etc. can hide the gold. Maybe your soak removed the signs of those being present. Nobody can be 100% sure just based on pictures.

Take opinions here with a grain of salt. I found a 14k diamond earring while prospecting and every person thought it was a real diamond. I took it in and it was fake.. but the gold was real! :)

A yellow rock will surely scratch yellow. I don't see much point in doing a scratch test without acid. You can get a gold test kit on eBay for like $10.

I know you use the tools you have available. A test kit and a crusher are a must for any hardrock prospector. You can always mail me a sample to crush and inspect. I'm in Tucson.
