Cleaned some trees & brush off behind my back porch & uncovered this Indian face carved in a large rock. I remember noticing it 23 years ago when we built the house but didn’t give it much thought back then & had forgot about it. Not sure if it is or could actually be an original carved by area native Americans?? There were some out buildings on the property years ago but no houses that I’m aware of. Location is SW Pennsylvania not far from the WVA line. Also, I remember finding a sea turtle carved on a truck tire size rock when we dug the foundation. I’ll try to find it & post some pics when I do. Thanks in advance for any info. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1590613577.882699.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1590613592.130265.jpg
Thanks for Lookin

I would start a little dig right in front of that rock. I'm not sure who carved that but the weathering on it makes me think thousands of years old. Would love to see the turtle.

Looks Polynesian but that's not likely.

Looks like smoke stain under that little overhang too. How far away was the turtle? Does that rock overlook a river? Something special going on right there.

That is beyond awesome Mike, I would invest in a shovel and a sifter, no telling what's in that area.

Thanks Everyone!
From what I remember the turtle was within 50yds. There’s a small stream that joins a larger creek....it’s facing the smaller stream roughly 100yds up from where it joins the creek. I’ll post some more turtle pics when I get the weeds cleaned up. Thanks

Well that's a perfect description of a camp site. Obviously there is some ceremonial purpose there as well. Have you found flakes or points around the house?

Here’s an aerial....the circled red”X” is the indian.....the “T” is where the turtle is now. It was originally found somewhere around the house foundation. Blue line is the small stream which joins the larger stream off to the left of pic. The Indian is facing/looking towards top right corner of the house. To make things more interesting....up stream is a deep ravine with a few caves that I always assumed were old shallow coal mines....he seems to be looking directly at a cave! I was in them when I was a kid....could see the tops of wooden supports but so eroded & collapsed you had to crawl in. Never really gave it much thought until I got into detecting & cleaning up around the house during quarantine!
