Possibly Painite or just garnet?

Found a neat piece of quartz out hiking near my house, I was thinking it was a garnets in quartz specimen but after looking more closely it resembles painite, what do you all think?

Unless your hike took you Myanmar..... I would say you have garnet or possibly something else. Did you do a hardness test?
Cool find though.

No, hike was close to home, its probably a garnet but it sure does resemble a painite crystal, hardness was 7 1/2 to 8.....solved, streak was colorless so it's a garnet.
