Ah, everything in life is a gamble. While waiting for members to pipe in - you might check with your home owner's insurance company and see if you aren't already covered for loss or damage. I imagine the policy you were offered covers more though...decisions...decisions...decisions... :)

protection insurance? What does it cover? Never heard of such a thing unless it's just a warranty. Homeowners / renters would cover theft

I do not have insurance on mine, $70 bucks a year seems pretty steep.

Maybe if you had one of those Minelab GPX/GPZ machines I could see that as a good idea, but not for the AT Pro.
It's a $500-$600 machine and it already comes with a one year warranty. Paying $70 a year is in no way worth it in my opinion.

Garrett has a two year warranty. I have never been offered addl coverage. Whom has offered it and where's the fine print?
Sounds like a scam to me...

I think it will be covered by the house insurance, but dont know for the other side of the border. I would'nt insure my Delta 4000 lol, but for a CTX3030, a Deus or any other expensive detector maybe. I would try to buy a waranty extension if it's available, it might be less expensive than 70$/year. Let's lok at it another way; 2 years of protection (140$) or a good Tesoro backup?

Don't know if they still do it now, but stores used to call it an extended warranty. It was a big scam they used to pull whenever you bought a camera, DVD player or any sort of electronic device. They tried to use scare tactics and high pressure sales clerks to get you to buy the warranty. Never worth the money and a great money maker for the stores.

If stolen from the house, the homeowners covers it. If from the car, car insurance should cover it assuming you have comprehensive. Price seems steep.

I'm just curious to know if OP is talking about an extended warranty, or some sort of loss/damage coverage? I'd buy neither, just looking for clarification.
