I drove to Carlisle this morning, on a invite from my new Forum
found friend, Grease Monkey. He was gracious enough to invite
me to hunt with him at a couple of his hunting sites.

Here’s tabdog ready to go, in front of an old school house. You
may notice, I’ve got tha wrong coil.

I was ready for tha rice field already????

Only hunted for a few minutes before Grease Monkey said, “let’s
go find some mini balls”.

He didn’t get no argument from Tabdog

Well, I’ll tell ya. We weren’t there more than 15 minutes and,

1-19-3.jpg

After Grease Monkey gave me my camera back, I was trying to
turn it off and,

Oops!!!

1-19-4.jpg

You can see that I couldn’t get that poopy looking smile off my
face.

As it turns out tha 12”X 10” concentric coil on my Euro Sabre
was not doing well for me in tha rice field.

Although I did find a few deep targets, there was so much iron
trash that small targets were being masked.

After we ate come fish and Bar-B-Q, I started using my Vaquero
with tha 5.75” concentric coil.

Grease Monkey had been tearing me up with his new Garrett 250.

I started holding my own a little better after that, but I was tired.

Look what GM found!!!!!

1-19-5.jpg

He found a nice big musket ball also.

I’m so jealous!!!

Here’s Tabdogs’ lone button???

1-19-11.jpg

It didn’t take long after that to ware Tabdog’s behind out.

Here’s GM’s finds,

1-19-7.jpg

1-19-8.jpg

Hare’s Tabdog’s meager finds,

1-19-6.jpg

GM beat me on everything except mini balls and I found a pin
fire cartridge.

I think this is really neat. I have read about pin fire cartridges,
but this is tha first time I’ve seen one.

1-19-10.jpg

Here’s my mini balls. A few appear to have been chewed on.
one to the extreme.

1-19-9.jpg

Here is a whatzit.

It is lead and has writing and numbers on both sides. I can not
make out what it says. It is a bit bigger around than a 12 gauge
shotgun shell.

1-19-13.jpg

1-19-14.jpg

Here’s a few other things I found.

1-19-15.jpg

It was cool and windy. But tha sun came out.

I had a great time.

I want to thank Grease Monkey for showing that old

Arkie Hospitality.

Hope you enjoyed our Arkie Relic Hunt, 1-19-09.

Respectfully Submitted,

Tabdog

Looks like you had a great hunt even with the wrong coil. Have to admit, you meet the greatest folks here on TNet.

it most likely is, although without reading it, it could be a lead bag seal for hundreds of things.

Re: How does a pin fire cartridge work?

Here is a whole pin fire cartridge. You can see that
the pin is inserted into the casing.

1-21-9.jpg

So, how does it work.

Simple.

You can see tha pin being inserted.

1-21-10.jpg

Here is inside tha casing before tha percussion cap
is in place.

Here is inside tha casing after tha percussion cap is
in place.

A picture’s worth a thousand words, idin it?

The gun simply hits down on tha pin and tha percussion
cap ignites tha powder.

Here’s an example of a pin fire revolver.

Thanks fer lOOkin,

Tabdog

Re: Up-Date

I cleaned tha bale seal some.

I can make out some of it now.

I am soaking it again.

Here’s what I think I can make out.

I cleaned tha button a little.

You can see that it’s an eagle button.

Thanks for lOOkin,

It's a bale seal.

I found a link.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

Bale Seal is another name for a Bag Seal which I said above. They came from many different countries & thousands of different companys. They were also used to seal electric meters & railway carriages (which are clearly not bag/bale seals). So a full ID would be difficult unless you can read all the writing.

Fantstic find!
Loved the pictures and story too!

Good Hunting....
