So after a boat ride, and a hike through bramble and swamp, I reached my site. I heavily researched the site, but you never quite know the conditions until you see it with your own eyes. Hunting was tough with a mix of tall grass and thorns, and woods. The site was the home of a fisherman from the 1760's to about 1850.

The trip:

Finds were sparse but I managed a few keepers.

The sandy soil made for some nicely preserved finds. Once I get home I'll properly clean the LC.

The holed lead pieces are old net weights

The reverse is beautiful!

And my favourite find, an early sinker.

Overall it was a good hunt. I was hoping for some early coinage since the area had whaling use dating back to about 1650, but maybe next time.

Enjoy and good hunts

Steve

Great adventure buddy :occasion14: We seem to be going buckle-for-buckle the last couple hunts. I know that place was a lot of effort for the finds, but you did get some cool stuff. I really like that odd shaped fishing weight... and obviously the buckle frame is killer. I'm glad you didn't skip that LC across the water... its in fantastic condition man.

lol. We're neck in neck with the buckles. It was a hike but the adventure alone was worth it. The fishing weight was a favorite for sure and the buckle frame is the most ornate one I've found to date. Thanks for stopping by buddy.

Do you have experience with all sinkers? I found this one under a route of an oak tree in New Orleans.

I love how it's molded perfect for the index finger and the thumb.

Can't say I do besides seeing some earlier examples. That hole in the bottom is curios. Was it found near the water? It may be a weight with another purpose besides fishing.

There is a small lake but you wouldn't need a 6 ounce weight in this little lake. I think you're right.

Goodness knows I love to find large cents. That said, at your site I would've much preferred to find the early fishing weight. Well done.

Nice assortment Steve! Love all those older items. The whole process of research, trip to the island and the finds surely made for some good memories. Always great when research pays off. Congrats.
