So after a boat ride, and a hike through bramble and swamp, I reached my site. I heavily researched the site, but you never quite know the conditions until you see it with your own eyes. Hunting was tough with a mix of tall grass and thorns, and woods. The site was the home of a fisherman from the 1760's to about 1850.

The trip:

Finds were sparse but I managed a few keepers.

The sandy soil made for some nicely preserved finds. Once I get home I'll properly clean the LC.

The holed lead pieces are old net weights

.

The reverse is beautiful!

And my favourite find, an early sinker.

Overall it was a good hunt. I was hoping for some early coinage since the area had whaling use dating back to about 1650, but maybe next time.

Enjoy and good hunts

Steve

Well done, I'm sure there are some more hidden treasures at that site.

Wow Scrappy! Great hunt. That LC is in great shape. Most of the places we hunt eats copper. I think it's the livestock more than the ground. Nice pictures Bud. Thanks for sharing.

Probably so, but this site is going on the back-burner. Maybe next year I'll go back for a return visit, but it didn't quite produce as much as I had hoped.

Joe, this one is one of my best condition large cents. Most of mine come from NJ farms where the fertilizer makes them look like an alligator chewed on them. That livestock poop has the same affect. This one came from costal sandy soil.

That was not just a detecting day, but rather an adventure. Congrats on pulling all those treasures from the site Steve. I particularly like the eagle piece and the LC.

Any time I can research a spot and have it turn up something definitively colonial is a success. Cheers

I love the adventure Steve and the finds too. Too bad it didn't pan out how you would have liked but you still came away with some quality keepers and you can now cross it off your list.

They can't all be supermodels Joey. They all can't be ugly either. What keeps us going are the average ones with a little bit of baggage. Lol

Great adventure buddy :occasion14: We seem to be going buckle-for-buckle the last couple hunts. I know that place was a lot of effort for the finds, but you did get some cool stuff. I really like that odd shaped fishing weight... and obviously the buckle frame is killer. I'm glad you didn't skip that LC across the water... its in fantastic condition man.
