what exactly is a grease die?

Well that's what I call them anyway. Some people call them strike through grease errors. I guess excess grease gets on the dies which prevents the coins from being struck properly. U can see a pic of a 2011 nickel I found on 2/11 which is the kind of coin Im talking about. Most of the lettering around both sides of the rim of the coin is very faint but its a nice condition coin otherwise with near full steps.

3/4:
$50 (String) mwr nickels: skunk (just 9 x '39-'57 non-silver Jeff's and an '09P)

3/6:
$2 loose halves: clad
$500 (String) half box #16: skunk

No luck the past couple of days. I'll probably get some nickels for the wknd and hopefully I'll get at least 3 more half boxes next week.

Yeah, no complaints though. I had my best box of the year on Monday and so far its been a pretty good year for me esp considering my low volume. I saw u found a little silver today though. But like u said its easy to get spoiled after finding some good boxes like we both just have recently lol. Good luck to us both next week.

Well I thought for sure I was going to get skunked with my wknd nickel box but after 45 rolls I finally found a very dirty dark '43P in the 46th roll. Surprisingly I was able to clean up the coin fairly well - on the obverse anyway. I also found another noticeable grease error coin, which just happens to be the same date and mint mark as the one I found on 2/11 - a 2011P. And just like the first one I found, the last digit of the date and mint mark are rather faint. I also found a 2006 New Zealand 10 cent coin.

3/7:
$100 (String) nickel box:

  • '43P
  • 17 x '40-'49 (non-silver)
  • 12 x '52-'59
  • 2 x 2009P
  • 2011P strike through grease error
  • 2006 New Zealand 10 cent

So I've now found 80 silver keepers so far this year. And I have a half box to pick up on Monday 3/10 and I'd sure like to find another great box like my 20 keeper box last Monday. :)

Well I've had slim picken's so far this week. But I did manage to find my first semi key date Jefferson nickel in quite a while ('39S) and a '92P off center strike. And I found a '73S in the very first roll of my half box on Monday but that was the best keeper of the whole box. I also found a few NIFC enders too (couldn't help myself with the pics lol).

3/10:
$.50 half - clad
$500 (String) half box #17 - skunk (just a'73S and a few other NIFC's)

3/11:
$50 (String) mwr nickels: '39S, 14 x '40-'58 non-silver, '92P off center strike

I hope to have 2 more half boxes to p/u tomorrow so Im hoping for better results with those.

H$H!

Well it was slim picken's for me this week. I was skunked on all 3 of my half boxes this week so Im now at a 4 box skunk streak which I know isn't much but I remember it was about this time of year 2 years ago that I had about a 25-30 box skunk streak so I sure hope I don't repeat that again. I found a clad '76S half (first pic below) in about the third roll of my first of two boxes I got on Thursday and that was as good as it got for both boxes. That is the third clad '76S half I've found so far this year too. But I had better luck with $40 in cwr halves I got on my way home from work on Friday. One of the rolls was all bicentennials - 19 clad and one silver '76S. So this year I've now found 3 clad '76S halves, one silver '76S half and one silver '76S Ike.

I also picked up a nickel box for the wknd on Friday so I'm hoping for one or two more nice keepers to finish off the week - I'll post my finds later this wknd. And I have 2 more half boxes to p/u Monday and two more for later next week. I just hope my current 4 half box skunk streak doesn't turn into an 8 box skunk streak next week.

3/13:
$.50 loose half: clad
$500 (String) half box #18: skunk ('76S clad)
$500 (String) half box #19:
skunk

3/14:
$40 cwr halves: '76S silver
$100 (String) nickel box: '44P, 11 x '40's non-silver, 17 x '50's, 2 x 2000D off center strikes, 3 x '09P's

Well I managed to find one silver in my wknd nickel box which is more silver than I found in my last 4 half boxes. I also found 2 x 2000D slightly off center strikes and a damaged/clipped '03P that Im pretty sure is PMD. I have 2 half boxes to p/u on Monday which Im hoping will produce a little silver at least so I can end my 4 half box skunk streak.

H$H!

That 76s silver is nice. I haven't found one of those yet (also looking for a 70 half). Better luck next week.

Yeah finding that silver '76S in one of those cwr's on Friday sure was a nice sight esp since it was my only silver for the week. I think that's the 4th or 5th silver '76S half I've ever found. But Im still looking for my first '70D and '70S half too. Maybe since Im having pretty good luck with silver proof coins so far this year I can find a '70S sometime soon. I'd sure be happy with that. :)

Well it was another week of slim pickens for me this week. Only managed to find one silver 40% half for the week. And I decided to go out for a short road trip on Saturday morning but I didn't have any luck at all partly because most of the banks I wanted to stop at were closed. In fact I was only able to find one bank with any halves at all - just $3.50 in clad - and the teller even shorted me $.50 in the exchange after I gave him $4. I didn't realize it till I was down the street stopping for gas. That one good 20 keeper half box I got on March 3rd is probably the only thing that's going to keep me from having a completely lousy month.

3/17:
$500 (String) half box #20: skunk
$500 (String) half box #21: skunk

3/18:
$50 (String) mwr nickels: skunk (just 11 x pre-'60 non-silver Jeff's including a '55(P))

3/19:
$100 mwr quarters: skunk (no surprise)

3/20:
$500 (String) half box #22: '69D, 2001 Panama Balboa
$500 (String) half box #23: skunk (2008 Panama Balboa)

3/21:
$1.50 loose halves: clad
$1 Ikes - clad

3/22:
$3.50 loose halves: clad & got shorted .50 from the teller

Hopefully better luck next week, or at least next month.

Too bad, but you did get one silver and those balboa a are neat looking.

Loaded boxes are in your future. Keep on rolling!

Yeah I agree, its not much but one is sure better than nothing. It was at the end of what I thought was going to be the 7th box of my skunk streak so I was just glad and kinda surprised to see it. Nearly all of the flat String boxes Ive gotten this year have come from the same p/u bank and I noticed my last two boxes were the first boxes that had a code on them - the same 4 digit code stamped on the top. I just hope I can get another great box or two like that 20 keeper box I got at the beginning of the month. :)

Well today was a better day. In fact I think I found more silver today than I have in the past three weeks since I found that great 20 keeper box three weeks ago today on 3/3/14. I stopped at one of my p/u banks that I haven't been to in a while because someone else has been using it as a dump bank and last time I was there I got stuck with 2 boxes of his repacked dumped coins. But today the bank had $800 in Dunbar mwr's - a sealed box and $300 in loose mwr's. I started with the $300 in loose mwr's and found a '64 Ken & 3 x 40% silver keepers (one was a rev ender) and an '87D rev ender. Unfortunately the box was a skunk but I'm still happy with finding the 4 keepers.

Also I noticed the Dunbar box had 2 different type of coin wrappers (pic below) which Im not sure I've seen before in my boxes. I like the solid brown wrappers better because they are a little thicker and peal open much easier. Actually I just prefer whatever wrappers might have the most silver in them lol.

3/24/14:
$.50 loose half - clad
$300 (Dunbar) mwr halves - '64 , 3 x '67 (1 rev ender), '87D (rev ender)
$500 (Dunbar) half box #24 - skunk

Hope everyone has a good finish this month.

H$H!
