Sleepy's Most Wanted (Roosevelt Dimes)

After having searched through $7,110 worth of dimes, I figured I'd get a Whitman Coin book (1946-1964 Dimes). I'm going to make it my goal to fill it by the end of the year! To the right is my "Most Wanted" List to help keep track of my progress. I want all of my finds to be from CRHing, so I won't be purchasing any of them. Here goes nothing! :headbang: 1)1955

After the Earthquake Comes the Aftershock: Find #39

Thursday

I got 6 more boxes yesterday. I had somewhat of a hope going into these boxes because, after all, I did find two separate boxes with tons of dimes yesterday. Five of the boxes ended up having one dime or less, but one box had 17 dimes!! Now, this would be the most incredible find ever had it not been for yesterday's monster pull. One of the rolls in Box 2 contained three dimes, similar to a roll I opened yesterday. One of the later rolls also contained #2 on the Most Wanted List: a 1955!!! The List is now down to just 9 dimes. I never would have thought I would have seen single digits prior to 2014 just a few days ago. Now then, if only we could find a few more of these 15+ dime boxes we could close this search out in no time! A little side note - I unfortunately won't be able to hunt Friday or Saturday due to a Christmas Weekend with my parents, but hey, those monster dime boxes can wait till Monday, right?

An EPIC Return Kills Category 3: Finds #36, #37, #38
Wednesday

So I had to shut down the CRHing for a few weeks until I graduated college, but now it's back on. So what do we have in our first six boxes on the Return Tour 2013. Oh! A 1952-S dime! Just my 3rd 'S' mint FDR! Okay, another dime. A Skunk. WHOA!!! My old record of 7 dimes in one box...SHATTERED! 24 Dimes in Box #4 including a 1961!!! Nothing can top that! Okay, Box #5...WHOAAAAAA!!! 25 dimes including a 1955-S and a 1936 MERC!!!! Box #6 had another FDR to boot...INCREDIBLE return to the game! I guess it's true what they say: "Good things come to those who...do their schoolwork!" I will certainly never forget this day! Took me one box to break my new record of 24 dimes...haha. Overall, that was 52 dimes in my first day back, including 3 FDR's on the Most Wanted List. I'll take it!!

Thanks, Mav. I was kinda wondering after it happened how it compared to some of the all-time great dime boxes here on the forum. Is this the equivalent of getting two dream boxes of halves back-to-back? My only guess is that someone must have dumped a lot of dimes in my local system because there were 2013 dimes mixed in the same rolls...so it wasn't like I got some boxes that had been chilling on some warehouse pallet since 1995 or something. Also, the fact that I found a 17 dime box one day later from the same courier tells me there could be a few more big boxes out there. If they do exist, hopefully they didn't get handed out on Friday or Saturday to some "business customer"!

Monday
Dimes
Box 1: skunk //1968 Canadian
Box 2: 1964D, 1968 Canadian 50%, 1961
Box 3: 1954D
Box 4: skunk //2007 Canadian

Box 6: 1946, 1953D, 1954D, 1956D, 1957, 1957D, 1960, 1961, 1961D, 1963D(x3), 1964(x2), 1964D(x3) //Another 17 dime box!!!

Halves
Box 1: 1964 90%

Another good haul today; however, with only 9 dimes left on the Most Wanted List, it's only going to get tougher to fill each hole. I thought there might be no more of those huge boxes left in the system, but it looks like I found one. Maybe I can find another one tomorrow.

Yeah, I was a little worried that I missed out by not CRHing on Fri and Sat (and maybe I did), but it looks like the sixth box came through.

Thursday
Dimes
Box 1: 1964
Box 2: 1947D // 2012 50 Mexican Centavos
Box 3: skunk
Box 4: 1964D(x2)
Box 5: 1956
Box 6: 1944S MERC, 1952, 1953D(x2), 1957(x3), 1957D, 1959, 1960, 1960D, 1961, 1962, 1962D(x3), 1963D(x4), 1964(x3), 1964D(x3) //26 Dimes!!! New Box Record! And in very similar fashion to Monday's haul. 1944S is a new MERC for me.

I was about 4 boxes in when I told my wife "Looks like it's back to the old days of needing to get 17 boxes to produce 17 dimes". It appears I was wrong as there was at least one more big box out there. There were 7 dimes found in the first 5 rolls. I was thinking this box could have upwards of 50 dimes at that point, but it cooled off in the middle before finishing strong. This one didn't produce any Most Wanted Finds, but it's still a new record high. I get to hunt these grounds about 2-3 more times before I move to the "Big City" where I was hunting over the summer. Kinda gotta start my new job! It's sad that I've gotta leave here when these boxes are hitting like they are, but then again, I had to leave the "Big City" the same week I got two older Canadian Silver dimes. There's your "silver lining". <---Get it! :p

For those keeping score at home, that's 123 silver dimes (120 FDR, 2 MERC, 1 1968 Can) and 1 1964 Half Dollar in the last four hunting days.

Congrats on those amazing dime boxes!

And congrats on your college graduation. Hope you land a nice job. If not, you can always start school all over again & be a pharmacist like me.

Thanks guys. Just happened to be in the right place at the right time I guess. I for sure know there are guys doing much higher dime volumes than me out there...I just feel fortunate to get what I get. As far as becoming a Pharmacist, that is a crazy amount of school to have accomplished. Congratulations on achieving that career field, baddbluff. Hope the nickel hunt is going well for you.

Sleepy - My daughter is in pharmacy school, and the amount of work to keep up is INSANE. School comes first before dimes! are you doing rotations yet?

Catching up on you, man. I got Roosies #29-32 in December, including a 1955, a 1954-S, and a 1950-D! I had been stuck on 28 for at least a month... I'll probably be stuck on 32 for a while :) However I already have 5 of the top 12, and there are a few category 3 that I'm still missing, so maybe I'll keep catching up!

Man, I'm happy when my dime boxes have one silver in them!

Also, I lucked out the other day at work, I pulled #14 from your list from my register, a 1953-S.
