Sleepy's Most Wanted (Roosevelt Dimes)

After having searched through $7,110 worth of dimes, I figured I'd get a Whitman Coin book (1946-1964 Dimes). I'm going to make it my goal to fill it by the end of the year! To the right is my "Most Wanted" List to help keep track of my progress. I want all of my finds to be from CRHing, so I won't be purchasing any of them. Here goes nothing! :headbang: 1)1955

*******2019 - A New Hope*******

I spent last night reading through this entire thread. Brought back a lot of good memories. I could just leave it as is...I had a good run back in 2013...orrr...I could pull a Disney and continue the saga!!!
:occasion14::3coins::goldcoin::3coins::occasion14:

The Lost Years (2014 - 2018)
When we last left off, Sleepy had just graduated college and was off to the big city to work a career type job to support his family...and stuff.

Okay, so here's what happened. I had just moved to the big city where we lived on the 4th story of an apartment complex with an elevator on the opposite side of the building. I brought four boxes of dimes up four flights of stairs and went through all of them to produce one dime. Normally, this would be a regular Monday, but after I had just come off getting those five monster dime boxes ranging from 17 to 26 dimes a piece, it was tough to get relegated back to 0.25/box status. Those record dime boxes were the best and worst thing that ever happened to my coin roll hunting career. Great because of all the dimes, but bad because it played a huge roll in me shutting it down. Then, after just a few months at my new job, I got picked up by the Air Force in May of 2014. This took me to Vegas from 2014-2018 where I picked up six boxes over the four years with no success. In fact, it was such a pain to return coins in that city that I just said "forget it, the dream is over"!

Two Weeks Ago...

My now family of three toured the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg, Manitoba on a 17-day road trip. Pretty much the same tour we got in Denver back in 2008, but it really got me reminiscing about the good times I had while CRHing in 2013.

This Week...aka THE COMEBACK!!!

We now live in our 4th state since I started CRHing back in 2013. This week begins The Comeback Tour 2019; building a CRH operation from the ground up. :hardhat:

Day 3 of THE COMEBACK Tour Produces Find #40
Wednesday

Today had it all...from tellers that provided big dollar coins to tellers that proudly "keep all big dollar coins" to a guy dumping halves with his public coin business attached to me visiting said public coin business. :tard: To say the least, I learned a lot more about my newfound CRHing landscape today. The big dollar coins, halves, and even a 1968 Canandian Dime with strong magnetic properties all let me down today, but my dime box was able to eek out a Most Wanted Dime on just my third day back. I saw the date said 1948, but hadn't turned it over quite yet. My wife said, "What do you need it so say?" I said, "S". She got this big smile on her face and I flipped it over real quick like and couldn't believe it was an 'S'! :hello2: Almost seemed too easy. We're now down to just eight Rosies left on the Most Wanted List - I'm looking at you 1953! Hopefully this '53 holdout doesn't end up on Twitch's White Whale list!

Wanted to go out and get like 3-4 boxes today, but I'm trying to be real careful with my dump bank...Only bank with a coin counter in the area from what I can tell. Dropped yesterday's $260 in halves off today and it didn't seem to raise any red flags. My concern is that the coin machine requires you to insert your bank card, so that means they're tracking how much you dump. Not sure how to play this yet. Any suggestions?

I belong to two credit unions with coin machines. I use them for dumping halves and dimes. Both take my account numbers so they could, as you know, track if they wish. From the bank's perspective, the coin machines are provided as a customer service - but also to increase deposits. So, rather than cash out every time, I will deposit my total from the coin machine's receipt - just in case they are tracking and doing a sort of cost/benefit analysis. That is a little more inconvenient because occasionally it means withdrawing cash from another bank - but that's no big deal either. Does your dump bank use bags or a coinstar type tub? If bags, then I keep a log of what I dump to minimize bag changes. The worst thing is requiring a bag change when you you only have a few coins left to dump. With a record of how many are in the bag, you can dump just enough coins and then the next poor dumper gets associated with the bag change. The notebook's record of dumps is not perfect however because there are others dumping on their own schedules and we never see them. So I avoid dumping on busy days like saturday (ask when they are busy to avoid potential bag changes) and by all means, don't go in to dump 5 minutes before closing. If possible, spread out your dumping among different branches. I dump at 6 branches of two credit unions. I pick up at my two banks that don't have coin machines. Good Luck!

Good stuff, Megalodon. I think I'm looking at one CU with about six branches. No second chances! I'm think about building this account up well past the minimum to give them something to give me some positive points if there is a behind-the-scenes cost benefit analysis. Good idea about trying to avoid bag changes.

Sleepy. Can't believe it's been DEC 2013 since your last merc found in the wild., 5 1/2 years is a LONG TIME. Better get moving before they are all gone from the wild.

Dumped ~$540 today in what I consider to be a nice model of coin counter. Not sure if it's bag or tub yet, but I'm sure at some point I will. :laughing7:

Working on relationship building here in Week 2 of the 2019 comeback. Bank closest to my house doesn't do a ton of business. Today they cautiously agreed to order me one box a week and we'll see how it goes sorta thing. Dumped another $500 today...seems to be going well so far. To increase inflow, one must pave the outflow path. Don't know if I'll ever get back to 30 boxes a week, but I can always try!

Got a "max transaction limit" error on the coin counter while dumping today at just $182. Teller said he'd never seen that error before. Details showed a $2000+ in quarters, so I don't know what that was about. Broke it out into two separate transactions.
Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I'm thinking next week is make or break time. Either we're going to hit my goal of 10+ dime boxes for next week or I'm getting shut down. To be continued...

Yeah, I'm actually looking at getting a detector. The XP Deus looks pretty sweet, but it's expensive. Might have to go cheaper...

Don't know if you saw it or not, but a poster here described buying a like-new White's MXT with pinpointer and headphones over the weekend for $150. If you see a steal like that, don't pass it up!
