Sleepy's Most Wanted (Roosevelt Dimes)

After having searched through $7,110 worth of dimes, I figured I'd get a Whitman Coin book (1946-1964 Dimes). I'm going to make it my goal to fill it by the end of the year! To the right is my "Most Wanted" List to help keep track of my progress. I want all of my finds to be from CRHing, so I won't be purchasing any of them. Here goes nothing! :headbang: 1)1955

Sorry If you have answered this already Sleepy, but how many silver dimes do you have total?

Total Dimes Searched: $59,918
FDRs: 179 (113 since May 28th)
Mercs: 13
Barbers: 0
Seateds: 0
Foreign Ag Dimes: 1936 KGV Canadian (80%) and 1961 Dominican Republic (90%)

I moved to a Big City for work this summer and I'll be returning home on Saturday. I feel like I learned a lot here that will hopefully take my CRHing back home to a new level.

Box 1: 1936 King George V Canadian Dime (80% Ag) :hello2:

Kinda feel like MIhunter today getting one of these Canadian coins, eh? Okay, so maybe it's not breaking any http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/coin-roll-hunting/278691-dimes-9.html#post2914768 records anytime soon, but it's my first Canadian Silver Dime and it couldn't have come in a better fashion. When I saw the rim, I thought it had a pretty good chance of being a MERC, but this is even better in my opinion. Looks like only 2.46M minted, too. When I got into Box 2, I found this coin that looked very yellow like gold and I thought maybe I might have found some crazy mexican gold coin or something. It turned out to be that '64D with an awkward amount of yellow toning. After that KGV, I was thinking anything was possible! :laughing7:

Nice find! Too bad it isn't a sterling one, but still neat. It is worth $2. Too bad it doesn't have the dot though, or you could have more money than TimZim has for CRHing.

The 2007 10 won can either be aluminum-bronze or copper plated aluminum. Since yours seems to be more reddish, I would bet on copper-plated aluminum. You can weigh it, the aluminum-bronze one weighs 1.22g, while the copper-plated aluminum one weighs 1.35g.

Looks like we've got ourselves a couple of War Dimes today! What can I say...it's been a good week for the King Georges! Not a good week for the Most Wanted list, but without a doubt a good week overall with three pre-D-Day coins. This was my last week in this Big City, where I have been hunting from May 28 - Aug 17. I received a job offer to work for a company in this city, so maybe I'll be back in January...maybe not. Either way, it's been fun hunting here. Back to the homelands Monday!!!

Super jealous still on Canadian silver :-)
Was that 1999 Georgia quarter silver proof??

Kudos on your KG V &KGVI dimes. although 5% of the silver dimes i find are Canadian, they are mostly 1950-68.
Do you find non silver Canadian dimes in your boxes & CWR?
I don't report the non silver dimes I find.
Some boxes may have none, but I average 5-10 nickel/steel Canadian dimes per box.
I don't try to dump them in CWR, I hold on to them and dump them in Canada once I have $100 in Canadian coins.

Man, that's a lot of Canadian coin! Then again, you do live right on the border, so I guess that's to be expected. I report all my foreigns found. I use the following format:
Box #: silver (foreign or domestic) or skunk //unusual coins (foreign, etc.) or a comment

for example, if I found a 1999 Canadian in box 1, a 1964D in box 2, and a 1943 KGVI in Box 3 I would post:

Dimes
Box 1: skunk //1999 Canadian Dime
Box 2: 1964D //One Millionth Silver FDR
Box 3: 1943 King George VI Canadian Dime (80%) //1000th Canadian Silver Coin

I've only come across like 2-3 dollars in Canadian money, so it's not too big a deal to just hold onto it...at least right now!

Home Debut Yields Find #33

Monday

Mick Jagger once said "You can't always get what you want, But if you try sometimes you just might find, You get what you need". Well that certainly was the case today in my first outing back in the homeland. I was pretty excited to go through my first box of halves since May, but it turned out to be just another skunk. It took 144 rolls before silver finally turned up: A Category 3 1952D. It wasn't the best find ever, but ya gotta git 'em all! Beware Category 3: you are now on the endangered species list!

You all have inspired me to hit the dimes a little bit harder. I've had some very good luck recently and today found a '49 and a '53 in the same MWR that was the clear wrap that had busted open and someone taped it shut with Scotch tape. Pretty funny. Looking at your ranking above those are the first of the harder to find dimes that we've found. Overall I've found 16 (14 rosies, 1 merc, 1 KG V) silver dimes out in the last 9 days, out of $1,350 in dimes searched.

Good luck with your list.

Man, that's great Twitch. Anytime you find a 1949/1955, you know it's been a good hunting day. Those are some incredible numbers, too. I think on $1350 I usually get about 4-5 FDRs. Keep it up! HH Sleepy.

Yeah, about half of them have come from a single bank. I'm struggling with how best to work this bank. I stop there about twice a week and pick up between $50 and $100, sometimes they have CWR, sometimes they have MWR. Either way I get 1 - 3 silvers every time. I don't know if it's working so well I should just keep it up or have I found a honey hole and should I push my luck and try to up the volume. I have an account at the bank, but it's a minimal account just so when they ask if I have an account I can honestly say yes.

Any thoughts on how to maximize the finds here?

Thanks,
Joe
