I covered the small paddock in the picture which had recently been grazed & the weeds cuts. Whilst Dad carried on with the next field (the one with the Villiage Well). After finishing the small paddock which was basically just a dump (lucky to pick out a few modern coins, 3 signals every swing), I joined Dad & helped him finish off that paddock. Only did 3.5 hours but that was plenty in the :icon_sunny: & baked clay soil :P We need rain, they are talking about hose pipe bans

Only items of note were:
Silver 1916 Shilling
Geo II counterstamped halfpenny
Grotty 1797 Penny, 3rd from this field.

As we are out of options, tomorrow will be boring.

Not bad Cru considering :icon_thumleft:, you still managed to get some good stuff. My first day for a while tomorrow, going early 4.30am to avoid the heat, or at least some of it :laughing7:.

you're Scottish? :icon_scratch:

No, my point was that Scotland has far more rain & snow than England but they are having water problems as well.

You said you only got out for 3 1/2hours, I'd love to see what you get when you spend a whole day at it! :notworthy:
If I ever found that much in the same time span, I'd be in treasure heaven. :laughing7:
Man I love that pocket watch case, too bad the watch is no longer with it eh!
Just to put the record straight (but those that have been here awhile will know), I picture all my Dads finds as well. So it was 7 man hours effort. Its the perfect detecting partnership, everything he finds I keep :D Generally speaking, I find 70% of the finds & Dad about 30%. Due to a better detector, plus I'm a lot faster.

Very nice hunt according to my standards :) I like 1916 shilling's design. It's quite a rare case when we find post-1901 English money because Australia introduced their own currency in 1901. I was quite happy to find an English sixpence of 1913 yesterday along with some Edwardian coins in a pocket spill. And 'Grotty' is gorgeous :headbang:

Sorry, I didn't know that, I'm still new at this forum. I wish my father wanted to spend quality time with me that way. If only I was into hiking, canoeing & camping . . . then I could spend time with him and his girlfriend.
If you ever happen to get into Stratford-Upon-Avon you give my mother-in-law a call and she could possibly direct you to some interesting sights to hunt?
Love the quality stuff that you find and post!

Cheers

Stay tuned, this is our worst month in the year, wait until harvest for the good stuff

No need to be sorry, just explaining to anyone new. I spent 10 years detecting on my own until Dad got interested, now he is with me on 90% of my hunts. We have just clocked up over 350 man hours this year, but will increase the frequency after harvest. (it will be our busiest year, no time for holidays)

Thanks for the invite but its a little far away & our order books are full for several years :)

I love the amount of history that you have in England. My wife and I tried to get married in Stratford-Upon-Avon as my wife lived there when she was young. But, the Church of England told us that we had to have a three week residency status at a permanent address before they would agree to marry us. I then contacted the Church of Scotland and we ended up getting married in a 14th century castle in Clarencefield, Scotland.

I remember one time when we were visiting my mother-in-law in Stratford and I went for a walk around town. There was an open pit in the street where they were doing some work on the sewer pipes, seeing that it was a Sunday there was nobody around, so I jumped down into the hole to see what I could find. There were shards blue and white china and pieces of clay pottery just falling out of the dirt three feet below the ground! All I could think was . . . they're so lucky here to have all this history around them.

May I wish you and your father the best of luck this year. ;D

I am lucky but I won't need to be this year. Our newest team member & avid researcher has help secure many Roman/Celtic sites which we have field walked & narrow down the areas, so that come harvest we will hit the ground running. The biggest problem is we have so many good sites & a very small window of time.
