Texas Politician Says State is Preparing to Become ‘Independent Nation’

"Dramatic Foolishness" "Utter Non-sense" - Because, revolution and civil war could Never happen now-a-days, just look around the world........nothing but peace. Hey, that could NEVER happen here in America though!!! Talk about utter foolishness, take off the rose colored glasses.

Actually, No I don't believe it would happen Here anymore.

and No I don't think the rest of the world can be used as an Example.

Yes maybe if Run Like the Vietnamese did, revolution and civil war through Gorilla warfare
could flourish like Drugs do now, But just like in the countries we put down for
attacking protesters in the streets, you better believe our Government would not hesitate to
repeat what happened in places like Tiananmen Square and Kent State University if pushed. only difference now, they would have propaganda to say it was unavoidable,
or a foreign entity

First, Texas would be flooded with immigrants both from the 49 states and from Mexico. Second they'd institute an income tax (they'd need it). And third they'd change their minds about secession.

It's always fun to talk about the "what ifs," though.

It's funny that people who don't agree assume that it's going to be some type of "king-dom". But that's typical of the leftist rhetoric. The people who would be seceding would be doing it to return to our original, founding fathers' intentions of a republic in which people would spend a SHORT time as representatives and then return to live under the laws they passed. The days of special rules for special people is part of our biggest problem.

Flat tax I assume would be federal income tax. Each state does income tax differently, or not at all (Texas). I'm a fan of a variable Pigovian taxation system for consumer items, but that's for another thread.

Capitalists and politicians.
Nice, We can see your bias from here.

This guy is one evil capitalist too. But his son looks to have been turned to your side, probably because daddy doesn't want to give it all to him. As it turns out a lot of the influential blue bloods on your side came from well to do families,, I think the silver spoon hurt their common sense education. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/16/u...residential-politics.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

If you received your degree here in the US you probably owe a debt to the Capitalists that donated money to your institution. Despite your progressive teachings most of these colleges were started by a successful man or company.

Some light reading for you.

And this is from a state that is turning its asphalt covered secondary roads back into gravel due to lack of money. A state that does not require workers compensation to be paid if you are hurt on the job, a state that is trying hard to become a suburb of Mexico with its income inequality and number of service jobs, a state that could care less about the health of their citizens or their ability to afford a hospital stay..

Hopefully they return the amount of Federal dollars they receive at present to keep them afloat.

I say "go for it". You got Houston, oil speculaters extraordinaires, Dallas, more oil speculaters extraordinaires, and then, you have, Brownsville, Sunnyland, El Paso, and a host of other towns and a bunch of open space with tumbleweeds rolling that you can count on to do all those things government is supposed to do.

Could you post some of those facts you have used to call this "liberal bs" olroy70? Last time I checked Governor Goodhair has done nothing except accept federal dollars for all his problems. Like the fires last year, do you remember the awful cry about the federal government not helping the poor people of Texas out when they really needed it? It would seem to me that since Texans don't want or need the Federal government, they should sthu and handle things themselves or request help from Dallas and Houston.

Is Your State A Net Giver or Taker of Federal Taxes? | The Big Picture

I thought this was nice,, maybe we could get NY and Calif. to double up for the rest of the country? Most people think that Texas would still pay the feds even if they were no longer a part? If TX left why would they need an income tax,, they could just keep stealing the same amount from Texans as the Fed does now.

those are some mighty fine graphs etc . I think Texas would be just fine if they secede and the United States of America pulls all their military bases and whatnot out of there. I'm certain you will agree that very little of the Texas economy hinges on anything military.

I say, GO FOR IT, SECEED, JUST DON'T ASK FOR ANY TYPE OF ANYTHING FROM THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

I'm sure Austin will have something to say about this :)

Austin, is Texas accepting legal immigrants from other Southern states ?

Well, actually I was just cruising by and wasn't going to comment, BUT I don't know. We pretty much take anybody that shows up. They can come from Minnesota or Mexico and they just come. We have a great medical system(hospital can't say no) and we treat everybody for free, then send the county, state or federal government the bill. This is an interesting state now. Our governor refuses to deal with Obamacare, most of the folks that have to be signed up are either not citizens or don't speak English, nobody but this RR jerk really wants to secede(we would like to kick Austin, Texas out of the state though)because we would lose all that wonderful federal money and our welfare recipients would starve and what was the question again? Secede, I think not. Now sit down and I ain't kidding about this. Texas is very, very fast becoming Democratic again and way more liberal than me. Movement is ongoing to register poor whites, blacks and all latinos to vote, then carpool them by neighborhood to the polls to vote. This is the movement among the neighborhoods in most southwestern states. No way OBOZO should have beaten Romney, but he did. When there is another african-american or especially latino candidate, the election probably will not even be close. Don't forget, we have a multi-billion dollar oil shale discovery to exploit and we will always have our hands open for a federal handout. We ain't that bright, but we pretty much know a gift horse when we see it. And remember the names Joaquin and Julian Castro. You may see them again.BUT, BUT, BUT I really wish I gave a ****, but I just don't. Guess I'm just too old. Gotta go now. Think my welfare check is coming today...

Excellent response Austin !!!

Ahhh Will Rogers, Down Home progressive!

  • After having vistited Italy and interviewed Mussolini in 1926, the American humorist Will Rogers, who was informally dubbed “Ambassador-at-Large of the United States” by the National Press Club, said of the fascist dictator: “I’m pretty high on that bird.” “Dictator form of government is the greatest form of government,” Rogers wrote, “that is, if you have the right dictator.”
