Most repros aren't close, some are [I am a long time collector of militaria].
That was just the 1st result that popped up, no doubt others .. So reproductions are available.

You've probably seen some of the Nazi Germany repro's then. Some of those badges and medals even fool advanced collectors. You have to pull out the loupe on many pieces and then still know what you're looking at/for.

I think this is a banner find myself, I put my vote in.

TR collecting is truly a minefield, super fakes abound complete with artificial, aged patina and even intentional damage/flaws. I collect mostly Imperial, some TR and WW2 USMC.
I don't collect US civil war but I am guessing it is no exception, especially something as simple and basic [and collectible] as belt buckles.

Wouldn't hurt to have it authenticated by a recognized expert in the field, in fact some sort of certification would probably be mandatory if it is ever attempted to be sold.

It doesn't matter you are always going to have those people who doubt.
I think at one time people thought these were Florida buckles, correct me if I'm wrong.

You know it's funny, it made the cover of a magazine but can't get a banner on this site. [emoji23][emoji23]

Why should you care about making banner here then ?

I don't. The cover on a magazine is good enough.[emoji16]
