They closed my account.

After going to my dump bank and informing them that due to company policy and state law they must take a deposit of coin rolled or not rolled. They got on the phone and after about 45 minutes found out that I was correct. So instead of giving the paper roles to me, and being happy to have me roll them, they told me to go to Wal-Mart. After that I said, “No, you’re going to take my coin. That’s your bank policy” she walked away and came back with a check and said, “Your account has been closed” witch they can do. I replied I don’t want a check give me cash, they ran out of large bills and ended up giving me come 10’s. But that’s ok; I pissed them off as much as they did me, if not more. I took them closing my account as a compliment that I had found out the bank policy/law and forced them to ether take my coin or lose a platinum client. As I have said before I have never been good with writing.

Now what if you had CD's there would they make you take an early withdraw penalty? What if you had outstanding checks in your checking account? You could face legal problems writing checks on a closed account.

Just to be on the mean side I would fight that closing. I would go directly to the top.

Tell them it was a personality clash with a lazy teller or manager. You want them to reestablish your account. You have outstanding checks and that your are going to be hit with many dollars in bounce charges. I am sure other branches of the same bank would have no problem accepting your coins.

Then after all is right, walk in and close it yourself! Bring a truck because you want all your money in halves.

I would send a letter to the Chief Operating Officer for the parent corporation of the bank.

Start out with "I used to believe any successful business followed the general rule that the "Customer comes first", but I see that the management at (insert bank branch here) wish to ignore that wisdom, and have lost a customer as a result....

Then take it from there.

Best of luck. There are certainly many other banks out there that would be only too happy to have your business.

Yeah I have gone to the top, well as far as they will let me go. She said sorry, I told her that even though I am only 18, she lost a platinum American express cardholder, for life along with 3 other people that closed their accounts. They will not help me; I really think it’s because of age. Witch is the biggest mistake they could make, ill be around for 80 more years (I hope), I don’t think the little old ladies will be. Just in monthly fees that’s 9600$. I have been on the phone with my other banks and the companies and people the checks are made out to, most of it has been taken care of. But I have been doing it for over 5 hours. I almost asked her to pay me for my time. I also implied that in the future they could be sued for the way they treated a person based on age.

I agree with Jeff and Txkickergirl, take it to the media. Don't leave anything back, let them know the company rules, and also let them know the liability situation they left you in with the outstanding checks. If you do let us know how it turns out!!! GL

Writing checks on a closed account is not the same as bouncing a check. $0.01-$499.99 is a class 1 misdemeanor, over $500 is a felony. Bouncing a check you just incur fines (unless excessive). Writing checks on a closed/nonexistant account will get you jail time.

If a bank bounces a check back to the payee, the payee has every right to turn it over to the local District Attorney for prosecution if the check writer fails to come in and pick it up within a certain time and pay a bounced check fee over and above the written amount. Each check over $50 is considered a felony and 2 or more totaling $50 or more is also a felony in our local.

If things get ugly, hire a good attorney. But I really hope things work out well. Good luck!

Something sounds fishy here. Whenever a checking account is closed, it has been my experience that tellers routinely ask about outstanding checks.

If they didn't do this for you, I think you are on solid ground for filing a complaint with your state banking commission.
It's easy to do! Just hit the internet, google your states bank commission address, go to the website, and make your complaint!

In the "Public Eye"
Long post, please read:"Public Eye" is correct, you will not only let everyone watching that newscast in on CRH,but the ones who don't "TRY" it will probably mention it at work or to family members( as people discuss news topics) or other people who WILL try it and probably stick with it.Silver WILL disappear IMMEDIATELY!

This, however, won't matter because if it ever got out on a national basis that people can go to banks and ask for certain coins and find silver and also ORDER it from banks in box form at no charge(usually) every bank across the nation will instantly stop making "special orders" of coins for customers and no one will be able to order halves again(possibly casinos and the like-BUT they don't order from a bank branch-it is delivered to their door-and MOST are coinless anyway).THINK about it!Before you make any move.

If THEY realize on a wide scale basis that people are ordering coins, tearing open the wrappers, searching for silver and bringing them right back to "A" bank, over and over again-do you think they will let it continue (AT ALL or at least without fee's to cover box cost's,wrapper cost's,delivery cost's)?

I have thought about this before,I have been told by the banks I used to be able to get boxes from that they incur a charge every time a box is ordered,I find this hard to believe as I have been told by ex bank employees that banks have a contract with the carriers(brinks etc.) to deliver and pickup cash and coin on a preset(monthly/yearly fee) basis.

This makes sense to me because I can't imagine a bank "paying a fee" for every box they order for themselves(bank business) and paying a fee for every bag they send back, some people on here go through 10+ boxes/week and dump them at self serve coin counters which have bags that have to be hauled to a central rolling facility,If they are returning enough to fill 10+ bags per week don't you think the bank would catch onto this fairly quickly if there is a separate "FEE" to them each time they shipped a bag?(EVEN if they they spread it out between multiple branches?)

They communicate with each other, they may not all know that the (half bags) are from the same customer but they know that they are returning a huge amount of coin that isn't even used in commerce anymore on a wide basis.

And if they don't communicate then the drivers/crew picking up the huge amount of non-used coins certainly realize it!Therefore I believe the banks have contracts with the carriers to haul WHATEVER they come up with during the week and it is based on a per month/per year fee and not a per box/bag fee.WHAT do you guys think??

BESIDES all this, people on this forum have told THEIR bank what they are doing with all the halves and they still order for them on a weekly/twice weekly basis with no fees or restrictions, that alone tells me that some banks don't pay a "per box ordered" fee.

Jemsdca, whatever you decide to do,try to keep your conversations between you and the bank and out of the "PUBLIC EYE",especially if you want to continue CRH with another bank in the future!

P.S. Arizona Bob was onto something, they MUST honor your checks if you can prove that they were "spent" before the close of your account.NOT just dated prior to closing.

Also, did they not give you a chance to know that if you wanted to deposit your loose coin that they would close your account based on that fact alone?

They got on the phone and after about 45 minutes found out that I was correct.

Were you holding up there "valued" customers standing in line during this 45 mins?I HOPE!

So instead of giving the paper roles to me, and being happy to have me roll them, they told me to go to Wal-Mart.

What does wal-mart have to do with depositing halves ???Were they trying to tell you to buy them at walmart and return with the wrapped coins later?

Last question, have you dealt with this particular teller in the past or did you just happen to get one of the rude ones?
