As we only had one detecting day this weekend we decided to go back to the race course field, this field is 42 HA so plenty of room to roam!

what can I say… musket balls .. we found 23 today, and 7 bobbin shot, then some splattered balls nd other ammo, lead disk with a stalk on the back, tack pin, can you believe just 1 button today and a piece of plate, little buckle, 2 lead weights, then I’m not sure who wins todays coins, I found half a short cross hammered, and half a silver coin, unsure what atm, but himself found this unusual one…. It’s a Soldino Leonardo Loredan 1501-1518….. xx

this field has now been planted, so will have to wait till next year to explore further I think! xx

I would have to give himself the win for finding a whole coin. That’s contingent upon someone chiming in with an ID on yours and it ended up being much older/rarer and more valuable. Basically, 🤷‍♀️. Lol You get the win for photography that is for sure! Congrats to you both.

All great finds but I think (begrudgingly). :) himself may have won this round with the unique find of the Venice coin recovery...

You seem to find so many ancient coins.
Do you keep them all, or do you sell some to people who might just like to have an old Roman or English coin?
Ah thank you! We keep them all! Infact we keep everything… interesting stuff we take to the FLO at the local museum for recording and adding to the PAS database! xx

You found half of a Celtic Silver Unit. Looks like a Colievetiti tribe.

Ps. The Soldino came over once a year from Italy in Galleys full of them to lend to merchants, hence they got the name 'Galley Halfpennies'. (as the circulated as halfpennies in our economy)

Ah thanks Crusader… your knowledge is amazing!! Thank you xx 🤗

Well you had a great day of digging putting 3 silvers in the pouches.
Well done!
Short cross silvers are a harder recovery for sure.
The other half of the Celtic silver must be in those soils still.
Planted fields are what dreams are made of, one just thinks of what's going to be found when the crop comes off.

Ha!!! I thort it was celtic, but never like to say.. … so celtic (pre AD43) and a half a hammered from between 1180-1247…should beat a single coin from early 1500 …. that was brought over en mass in boats!! 🤔. Ha ha xx 😂😂

I have to agree. :). Hard to argue with that....

Wow, again! I think you both came out about even on the coin finds. After all, two halve equal one coin! Great finds. Great pictures. Thanks for sharing. Always look forward to seeing your posts!
