not a stupid question at all divemaster, most all the beaches are open except for the national seashore south of Nags Head, and the state parks, fort macon use to allow detecting on beaches after labor day, I dont know about fort fisher. there is a large group from wilmington area here so I suspect one of them can fill you in

I hope this response isn’t too late, the only area in the Wilmington area that’s off limits is the Carolina state park, Fort Fisher CW museum area and above the high tide line in Fort fisher State Park.

Fort fisher public beach and south in the 4 wheel drive section is OK to hunt below the high tide line after October 1 till some time in the spring. All the other beaches in the area are open to hunting any time.

Anyone know about the Northern end of the Outer Banks? Any town better or worse than the others?
