Ok thank you, I just wanted to know what the name of it would be for my frame. Yes it was my fault I didnt ask cause I figured it was a nice TT and didnt need to ask at the time. It was the first time I was at a show like that.

I asked you because the notches look new on the piece, therefore it has great bearing where you got it from. From the images provided, it appears to be a ovate preform / knife with added side notches. Nothing in manufacture about the piece really looks Red Ochre, nor does it resemble Adena. If the notches ARE new it would answer the question. If not, then it's an oddity to ponder.

Well after looking at the notches they are kinda strange. You know how the flaking on a Thebes is done on each side, well the same is on this piece on the notches only. I do find that strange. OK it is dark outside but I took some in the room here. Hope it helps. And while we are at it I will post another I bought out of that box I find strange. Thanks for your help.

Here is the other one. It has the flaking like a Thebes but has a base like a Big Sandy IMO, I might be wrong. The color is not green by the way.

Rock, those images do show a little more. Those notches are very strange (notice how they are very steep, abrupt, as if done as a second thought or performed by a novice knapper) and I would wager that they were done by a different person than the one who originally made that piece - it could have been done in prehistoric times though. I would give those notches some special scrutiny to see if they are old or new.

The second point is not a Big Sandy. Big Sandy are side notched (that is corner notched) and actually have a much smaller distribution range than most people would think. It's probably related to a Lost Lake. Even though it has lost it's barb from numerous resharpenings, the angle of the notches tell the tale.

No I bought it cause I like and have never seen a Turkey Tail Point in person. I found the tail large and then I saw they were called Beaver Tails if the tail was large like this one. My guide says they are rare where I live so I figured it wasnt from my area. Although Tn Mountains has found one which by the way looks really nice. HI TN where you been? So I had to ask if anyone had found any like this one before. Just cause it was bought doesnt mean it is fake. If you dont want to buy them so be it. But if you dont know then keep your thoughts civil and dont try to knock it out because no one will look at your thread you have posted. This was a true question and I wanted to know. And Matt a lot of times wont comment on a artifact unless he knows you. I just love this point and am keeping it.

Thanks Rock. I remember the day I found that point the place and county. Been busy with deer season and doing some relic hunting while it is cool. I have a point like the other you posted but can not seem to find it. As Matt stated look at where the notches come from. Side /corner that helped me a lot. These guys will teach you a lot on here. I know I learn every time I click in. Good hunting.
