🥇 BANNER *UPDATE* Cleaned up nicely! Just dug one of the rarest New Jersey Contemporary counterfeits 1787 Maris 83-ii variety R7

I located a small cellar hole not far from where I live. How I did not notice this years ago is beyond me? As with most cellars these days most are pounded out. As I walked up to it after a 15 min hike. I had doubts it was even a cellar hole. no well just a shallow depression with a small pile of more rounded rocks son the edge. turned my machine on and 1st target was a musket ball, nice I thought! 2nd target was a rat tail pewter spoon bowl. so this confirmed home site to me. I dug a couple fugio's and a shot CT copper a a few buttons and last target was a sweet silver luckenbooth brooch. I called it a day as it was getting late. I returned today started out with another musket ball. nabbed another copper which is a hibernia. then i dug a a button signal and out popped a clipped thin copper. didn't think much of it and put in in my case. When I got home and started cleaning my finds I saw a shield but it looked thinner and more narrow than your typical NJ copper. I sent a few messages to some colonial copper experts on facebook and got the good news. super rare only 10-12 known Maris 83-ii Rarity 7 which is amazing. boat loads rarer than my AMERI. reversed Chain cent. My coin is struck over a 1782 KG III Hibernia. You can clearly see the under type in the pics below.

Regarding your NJ....a clipped planchet struck over a 1782 KG III Hibernia is just too cool. I am not surprised that a serious collector wanted it. I'm glad there was enough detail to get a positive ID!

Wonderful, amazing coins, brooch and buckle! Must have been a fairly wealthy and well-travelled family who lived there in the 1700s. I like the coin cleaning and the jeweller's skillful work on the brooch and buckle. I think these finds are worthy of an award.

The site that does keep giving for sure-what a great looking copper you got again-love the patina on this one.

I have a brother up in CT in the New Milford area. I'm always telling him to locate me an old property. Hasn't happened yet. I will have to do it myself next time I visit him. So many beautiful old properties up that way.

I would just like to add that an R-7 New Jersey Copper is basically considered uncollectable by colonial collectors. The reason being that so few are available that a variety such as this would be missing from even the most advanced cabinets. Well done, Dave. This is a BANNER FIND if there ever was one.

Who Knows Donnie? not to take anything away from any banner winner but if a $30 1921 Morgan dollar or 5 ounces of modern sterling silver at a beach can make it maybe my $11,000 1787 New Jersey Counterfeit copper will make it one of these days?

Obviously, the moderators have no clue as to how rare this coin is or it would have already had a Banner. That definitely says something about this site and the moderators. I'm actually surprised that TNet still exists to be honest. It's a dinosaur now with all of the Facebook groups.

It depends on how you use Facebook and Twitter. If you go looking for rubbish and conspiracy theories you will find them. If you, instead, join metal detecting and coin groups you will see some amazing finds like this R-7 New Jersey Copper that you will probably never see again in your lifetime. One of these days, when there is no money to pay for the servers, this specialist forum will disappear just like the dinosaurs millions of years ago.

What a nose for cellar holes. I've located some around where I live. Most show evidence of a previous fire. This old homesite I walk from my house to, but never taken an MD. All surface finds point to artifacts from the 1st quarter of the 20th century from the broken bottles and crockery that had been scattered by the plow, that has avoided being torn up by the foundations and always going around it for many decades. The coyotes had dug a borrow in the deep soft blown in dusty dirt that's built up in the center of the foundation over time. I hadn't found anything they've uncovered. One time when I was there with my dog three coyotes very nervously circled around us and were very concerned of our presence and constantly squatting to urinate. Never taking their eyes off us. My dog was viciously barking and was wishing he could go after them, but I put him on a leash. They may have had pups in the den from the way they acted with great concern.
