Weird flat button, tiny pendant, any ideas?

Found in an area settled by freedmen, and fields before that.

The parts coming out would make it not the best button, maybe it was a sewn on decorative element?

Very nice button, probably a lady's button? I have dug something similar with an ornate leaf design. A year later I think I may have found a similar themed sash buckle on the same property.
