What animal's bone is this?

I found the skull/bone in England, Hunstanton it was laying near a rock on the sand. I say it is a skull but i am not too sure, because i don't collect these kind of things so i have no clue. From my understanding it is probably a bird. When the picture was taken the bone was still a little bit damp, as seen in the photos it is around 4-5 cm wide. Please help me identify the skull. ALSO why is it black?

First thought is it is a vertebra?????? IDK for sure, just guessing.

Vertebra, probably from an ancient sea creature like a porpoise.

Thankyou for such fast answers, also why is the bone black?

I concur, umm what made you think it was a skull?

It's black because it is most likely fossilized. So you have found a fossil. Go find some more, & be sure to share the pictures with us.

Black doesn't necessarily mean it's a fossil. It takes millions of years for things to be truly fossilized, yet they can be turned black by mineral staining, decay, or exposure in a few years.
