Hello,

I picked up this nice dime CRHing...not 100% what type or error this is. My guess would be an improperly annealed planchet error? I would love to have some your opinions on this interesting coin find. I posted up some pics of it next to a normal 2009 dime. Thanks for the input!

Other than one being a little darker than the other, I don't see anything out of the ordinary. I've dug dimes at the beach that looked that way after some time in the salt water.

Thanks for the replies guys. This dime looks black in person, even the rim. It just caught my eyes when CRHing some dimes.

Yeah it probably is a PMD'ed coin. It is like it has no silver finish.

This can actually happen it's called a sintered planchet and is caused by a coin being left in the annealing drum for too long, the coin you have looks similar to those that i have seen but without a look in hand no one can be certain. This error does not bring a huge premium and is more of a curiosity.

Very cool, I'm going to hold on to it just because it looks different!

I just tumbled all of my metal detected coins, some from beach/water others from on land. Lots of them look like that. Some CRH'er is going to get some wonky rolls of coins.
