This is my favorite CW find so far.... these were found at the site of the Whitehall CW hospital outside of philadelphia pa...they knocked the hall down 8 years earlier to build a water tower... I assume these pieces were in the hall when knocked down....many many more artifacts were found at that spot these were my favorite... 2 of the buttons are still attached to part of the union soldiers uniform... they are marine buttons the backmarks W.G. Mintzer .philad place them right in the war...hh all jd

Man, this is so awesome! I get to post my best CW find and I found it this past weekend.

I was at a site that was wooded but the construction crew was there and ripped up every tree in about a six acre area. I waited till Sunday when no one was working and hit the site about 9am. I wasn't there 5 minutes when I dug a 5 inch brass square nail/spike and then for the next ten minutes I was digging aluminum cans.
I was using my Whites MXT in relic mode and kept getting a "Buckle" reading in the 70's on my MXT and I would dig it up only to find yet another can. Well, after a dozen or so cans I got another "buckle" reading in the 70's 72 to be exact and I dug a hole and checked the hole again. The target was still in the hole but a stronger signal. So, I got down on my knee and pulled out my pin pointer and I located the item in the loose dirt but it was real dirty and not aluminum. I picked it up and I thought "OMG, this is not a buckle, this is not a buckle!" well, it wasn't a buckle but it was a really nice US box plate. My first ever!

Enjoy the pics ;D

Jury is still out whether this buckle is civil war era, pre-civil war or psot civil war. They were worn pre civil war by British Sailors, also worn by both Union and confederate soldiers during the civil war. It is an S snake buckle. For now I am calling it in the middle as civil war era. It was found at a site that goes back to colonial times and is still active now so hard to date exactly.

I left Alabama with about ten bullets and two pieces of cannonball and a knapsack hook.I sure wish I had a better detector back then. My hunting partners were cleaning house all around me and it was very frustrating.

*Eagle sword belt plate. Found in Morrisville, NC. battlefield area.

*A piece of 6lb. cannonball. Found on farm property.

The Tesoro LOVES relics! ;D

Well.. I have a "few" things I have dug.. I have posted before.. but my "very best" as far as just having a blast digging them would be a trash pit I found close to a Union signal tower in Northing Virginia.. I was done for the day.. had been digging for about 6 hours when I was walking back up to my car. Had a good hit so I dug it... turned out to the be the pewter barrel tap in the picture.. all and all I dug over 50 intact bottles out of the hole.. none over 2 feet deep.. and at least another 50 that were broken!! plus the saddle pieces, 3 eagle buttons.. the clay pipe.. and some bullets including one Gardner.. one of my best days out in a long time!!!
