What kind of tool?

I saw quite a few of these at the show so I decided to get one. It is made from flint and was found in Tn by the seller. He had a bunch of hoes and Celts, Game Balls, Discoils and points. I did however show him my large white ball and he said Game Ball on it. But here it is and I am open to all thoughts cause I am not sure. Thanks, rock This is 5 inches Long and 3 inches wide.

I would also imagine the way the spall/ large flake was taken from the mother stone and the method used to get to its final shape would make a difference as well. Snap base points are well documented.

Here is one that I found. It is not chipped or flaked as yours is. I don't know if they made it quick and crude or just why it is not polished. You can see that the "flat spot" on mine sits higher than the bit and hafted area. Some one suggested that it is a preform, and that sounds right, if not for the wear on the bit and the hafting line. What do you guys think??

I second what Gator said. The function of these tools are not carved in stone. (little pun intended) I would think many of them were used in multiple task. Just as today's tools are. If I were you, I would call it a Swiss army knife. That about covers all grounds. One sure fact, it is a nice tool. I don't think anyone would question if it is an artifact or not. Spade!! Lol!
