Whats wrong with my Garrett?

I recently purchased a Garrett Ace 250 from ebay, description stated everything was in working order so I'm not sure if its something I'm not doing correctly or possibly a problem with my detector. The lower LCD panel does not seem to be working, the sensitivity, battery, relics and coins mode are not displaying. I replaced the batteries with fresh batteries and it lit up briefly. Anyone, have any thoughts?

Reason why I recommend newbies always purchase their first detector from a local dealer and they can carry it home with them and not let UPS toss the box around. Then too maybe the seller lied. Send it in to Garrett.
