If it isnt said that the proof is silver then I would assume they are junk clad.

Just wondering, how often are silver proofs found? Looking at Red Book, it looks like very few would be found in general circulation.

I have found one 2000S silver proof. I have found approximately $30 in junk clad proofs.

Actually just yesterday I found a bi-centenial 40% silver proof, and on the same thread another replied they had also found one within that day or day previous.

I've found a silver proof, but no Barber. Mine was a centennial proof. The same box yielded an "86-S proof as well (non-silver).

I would say much easier than a barber. I found 2 silver proofs this month alone.

I also assume that the Proof finds are clad, except when noted as silver.

I still haven't found a silver proof, but lots of clad ones.

I have found 3-90% silver proofs, and just two weeks ago, I found my first 1776-1976 S- 40% silver proof. I have never found a barber CRH, and not only that but I have found only 2 W.L. CRH'ing. So I would say proofs arent that hard. I let the new guys have their fun when posting junk proof halves, I did it too when I first started, now, I dont even keep my proofs. They do nothing for me, and I dont have the space to bother with them.

Re: when we find proofs , let's differentiate -silvers / clunkers...

for further reference, they did not make silver proofs(with the exception of 1976 bicentennial) from 1971-1991....

Silver proofs were made along with regular CiNi proofs from 1992-2012 and are still being made.

and for those who do not understand... they made BOTH silver, which is AG on the periodic table(not AU, AU is gold.) and CuNi(Copper nickel, which is the composition of most half dollars 1971-2012)

1992S

1993S

1994S

1995S

1996S

1997S

1998S

1999S

2000S

2001S

2002S

2003S

2004S

2005S

2006S

2007S

2008S

2009S

2010S

2011S

2012-S

...ALL years they both made AG and CuNi proofs. There is no such thing as a 1991S SILVER PROOF, and proofs are ONLY marked with an S mintmark, if it is D or P, it is not proof.

Did you mean bicentennial? A centennial proof would be an 1876 proof, which is valued at $1000.

A few weeks back I found a 1955 Franklin Proof. Two small fingerprints on the obverse.

Don't forget too, that the bicentennial proof halves came in both Ag and CuNi; and that the Ag (bicentennial) halves came in both business strike as well as proof.

So there's actually three different '76S half dollar "keepers".

You are correct, though I really wish I were in this case, i.e. a $1,000 coin. :o

I think you mean AG. AU is gold. They did not make gold bicentennial halves.

Many people privately made gold plated halves.
