winter panning

Who pans for gold in the winter. I pan up until it gets less then 20 degrees at that point wet hands and air dont mix.

It seems that the gold prospecting clubs in the mid-west roll up their sidewalks in the winter for some reason. they mostly don't even post on their own club websites. what a waste!

We have had a warm spell of above freezing all week! If it holds another day I'll be out all day Saturday. I'm prepping the dredge right now! Low cold water here I come!

Well I know I've been mia lately, just haven't been out in the field all summer. I went out to Uwharrie NF a couple of weeks ago but the usual creeks were dry. So I took my gear to my In-laws place in Mid-Michigan. Again mid 20's but tried a different creek on the in-laws property and this is the result after about 3 1/2hrs of digging.


Here is my set up (30" Prospector and direct shoveling with my tile/trench shovel) .



Gotta go back when it's warmer and bring a dredge or ar least a highbanker.

Alaska thanks, yes the in-laws place is pretty cool, 85 acres. 2 flowing year round streams, a couple of intermittent and few artesion wells.

I think you had better explain your modification on your BGT heheh kidding.
Is it just for holding down?
Do you get rocks piling up on it?

See you caught that good eye. Yes took a piece of aluminum flat stock to help with putting rock on top of to hold the BGT down. Not many rocks get caught but there bigger than should be ran threw anyway. Added one to the mini also, as an extra added bonus I can slide the mini in between and it holds it nicely. I'll take a picture tonight when i get off work to show it better of what I'm talking about.
