I've got 3 merry widows containers and can't afford to get stung by yellow jackets anymore, deathly allergic to even one sting, perish the thought of getting stung many times, I do carry an EPI- PEN, but don't know if it would be enough if I got stung more than once at a time........NGE

NGE - This time of year the yellowjacket wasps go crazy.
They know most will die and they are desperate to help the colony before that happens.
Also, the fallen fruit tends to ferment on the ground and
you get a lot of yellowjackets that are drunk and have nothing to live for.
( I may have seen people like that???)
Be careful !

Back to topic -

Found and dug up the lid for the lost septic tank when it backed up and it was in the middle of a scrap yard.
(Actually I Dowsed for it to start with).

Re: You arent a seasoned metal detectorist unless you've dug up....

I can testify - for fact - that your Epi-pen will take care of 5 bee/wasp stings. (as long as you are not as allergic as my son. I'm allergic, but he is hyper-allergic. My Epi did keep him around long enough to get him to the hospital - one sting, under his ringt armpit).

I got stung 5 times from ground wasps, needed the epi - and it did work. Mine is .3 (I know some are .1, .2, and as much as .4)

Still, something about being allergic seems to make just one sting feel like your whole body has been stung - it hurts, alot. Hurts so much, sometimes its hard to tell exactly where the sting is - because it makes the whole body hurt.

.3 here too, 5 minutes after sting, throat swells hard to breathe. If I see miniature airport anywhere while out hunting, I head the other way.......NGE

Enough nails to build a house. Enough car parts to get your ol' truck running again. Enough caps and tabs to start a brewery. Enough clad that the bank has officially barred you from cashing in your "dirty pennies" and all the bankers know you by first name. Enough dirt to be legally qualified to have a Caterpillar tattoo and take on the nickname "backhoe". Etc...good topic!

Re: You arent a seasoned metal detectorist unless you've dug up....

dang, I must be seasoned because I have dug a lot of these...the barrel, car parts, water lines, tooth fillings, family pet, questionable bones. Here's a few that weren't named:

wood burning stove
spoke tire
cremation tag
anchor
bar b cue grill
chased by bee's
offered money by someone thinking you were homeless

glass mason jar(thinking cache here)had some gross dead voodoo animal parts in it(thank God it was my brothers find not mine ;D)

but I won't claim to be seasoned until I dig!
A gold coin
A civil war buckle
One of the many treasures buried on South Padre Island
