I was wondering if anyone could help me on this pretty colbalt blue bottle bottom I found beside an old cemetery among other construction debris. It has been said that area had an old CW field hospital nearby and I know bottles have been dug intact there. On a whim the mister and I just let ourselves in the area yesterday(nothing but a dead end gate we could walk right through) We found bits of old bottles, broken earthenware,a pretty red glass bead,a broken ceramic railroad insulator, old china bits.Imwould have loved to stay longer but it was 96 degrees and we weren't prepared. So here are a few pics from yesterday.

ok, this isn't making me like you. ( why can I not live in an old area?)

Oh you know you still likey me Jeff. I will have to admit I was pretty fired up even though we found nothing whole. I was like the honey badger .

really that is cool stuff. hey girlie check out the thread " 3 hours and this is all?"

did you just randomly dig there or what?

Okay will check that one out( should I be scared?) a few weeks ago we saw construction going on and talked to some of the guys that were working and they said their superintendent was a bottle collector and they had found some intact old bottles. I'm thinking that probably all the good stuff either had been found already or just not uncovered yet.Jeff you should really think about researching your area to see if you can find some areas where old houses may have been.

and to put your mind at rest, yes I will always like you ( I can see your heart)

Shameless bump. I also am seeing embossed bold letters near the bottom of the bottle that spell out ISN but can't tell if that is the end of a word or what.the other letter to the left of these are broken off or too smooth .

Your going back with your detector, right?

Thank you Surf,I was hoping you would see this thread and help me out.Am off to read the link you provided and send it to the mister.Maybe we'll try and go back now.8-)

If you have one, I think I would revisit that area with a metal detector. Good luck and be safe.

Whadduhya mean,"Maybe?" I'd call those shards & that bead + an oyster shell & marble practically an engraved invitation. 8-)

Have you gotta probe? Is this site under construction?

Nashville has some great bottles of an earlier age!

Y'all are tempting me! No,we don't have a probe but there are mounds of dirt piled up that I'll bet I could just gently rake through. There is broken glass and pieces and shards of pottery everywhere.I'm thinking there must be some whole bottles buried in those mounds where the backhoes have dug .Yes,the area is under construction. Why would there be an oyster shell in Nashville? That one had me scratching my head AND wanting a dozen or so and a couple of brews.

have the hubby record it with a videocamera.
If anyone says anything say you are doing a tv show

go for it CG

Should I learn how to do a cartwheel first?

gonna wear pants or a skirt?

You are sooo bad.Seriously I think I will just lay low and lightly scratch in the dirt and see what I can find. The mister can be my lookout.

just think of the history lost if it isn't dug up now
