I recall those were still in use around 1962 if I recall the 2nd grade correctly. They ought a go back to them, being it's such a concern to eliminate waste and cut energy consumption.

I got these today , $1.00 each - I just can't find the off button for the little one or the on button for the big one .

I know about those. The on and off switch come separate, kind of like batteries today. I not sure where you can find them, but the On switch is normally white, long and round kind of like a small stick, made of a chalky type substance (forgot the real name) and comes in box of I think it was 12. The Off switch is a little larger, it is made of some type of cloth material and is square, normally last forever. The off switch is more rare than the on but they are out there. Good Luck on your search.

I like using chalkboards, in my class/lab room blackboards still remain (only a few left on campus). :icon_thumleft:

Well I'd say anything that's worked fine for over 200 years shouldn't be all that urgent to replace, but I do like all the wonderful colors available today with a whiteboard. Just remembered to put the caps back on the markers, please!

In 1801, the rather obvious solution to the problem made its debut. James Pillans, headmaster and geography teacher at the Old High School in Edinburgh, Scotland, is credited with inventing the first modern blackboard when he hung a large piece of slate on the classroom wall.

Found a little larger one a few years ago at a thrift store. Hanging in our kitchen. Use it ALL THE TIME! Great find for you!
