Hope you all are doing well. About 15 years ago I got connected with a man named Worley Charles from Olive Hill. He had searched for the Swift Mines all his life. Anyways he allowed me to copy all his notes and stories. He recently passed a year or so back so thought I’d share a few things. Curtis and others interested in the Waybill will be interested in this first document. It is a contract for prospecting and mining silver on the Skaggs farm on Skaggs Flat which is right on top of the Waybill area. I’ll past some more things as I go through these notes.

By the length of the stream on the map I would guess that to be the Licking River...but just a guess on my part.

Great stuff Mr. Mason..

FWIW, your images are posting at 3024x4032 pixels..this is probably
why they are not posting correctly.

It is easy to reduce an images size using PAINT. Just open the pic
in PAINT, select the "resize" box and then what percentage you
wish to reduce by. I saved and resized this image in PAINT
using "30%". It reduced it from 2.48MB down to 351kb, and
still big enough to fill the screen.



There is an adjustable setting on your phone/camera for the image size.
I believe yours is set to the largest setting (3024x4032), making for very
large file sizes and huge images. Images would post better (correct side up)
if you reset that to something along the lines of 1000x800 (or thereabouts).
Your pictures would still be plenty big for internet use without any degrading
of the image, and they would load and post much faster.

The meeting that took place in Clark County, I assume the historical place or earthworks they were talking about was the Indian Old Fields or Kiss_______i ? Winchester, KY is not far from both Boonesboro and the Indian Old Fields. Really liked the assay from Menifee County too... not far from the RRG or Natural Bridge S.P.

The mention of earthworks reminded me of this article about Mrs. Timmins (in the article she is named Mrs. Perkins for some reason). It mentions the burial mounds littered all over that area at that time and the Indian Trace through that area. Also a description of the Indian Stairway...the writer takes some liberty detailing the cliffs as 1000ft high...hahah maybe 300-400ft but he paints a picture. I have posted this before...Link to the 1883 Story below 'The Lone Woman of the Wilderness'.

i think if you look real close ,the map is actually of the Little Sandy which empties into the Ohio between the Scioto and the Big Sandy. The map could very well be of the Grayson area or north of it.

The Little Sandy is the only large stream that flows into the Ohio on the Ky. side between the Scioto and the Sandy that I can think of. The Sandy empties in at Catlettsburg, Ky./Kenova, W.Va. Area. The Scioto empties in at Portsmouth. The Little Sandy empties in near Greenup, Ky. Not sure if there is any other Large streams that empty in on the Ky. side before you get to the Licking that empties in around Covington/Cincinnati area.

Does the Tygrat empty into the Ohio? The names on the map are branches in Carter County that flow into the Tygrat. However someone have have wrote the names in wrong.

I think Tygart empties into the Ohio at South Shore.
