I watched this on TV many months ago and found it very interesting... saw it pop up on YouTube recently and thought I would post it here for all to consider. It is about Gen Washington and one of his inner circles. The Culper ring was one of many he had networked. There was one around Boston, Alexandria and Charleston. These were his information networks and special operations.
All of this got my gears turning in my head...tied to the Jonathon Swift of Alexandria, VA Mr. Prather had researched in his book. That Swift was a friend and contemporary (and fellow Mason) with Washington and owned various large tracts of land in KY. That J.Swift's father-in-law (Roberdeau) was a General as well during the Revolutionary war. Who operated a lead mine for the war effort. With these ideas in mind...watch this, it may open up possibilities as to why this legend has never been fully pinned down, or take your research in a different direction toward the truth at the basis of this legend. Remember there are claims by many that the Swift Journal is a Masonic allegory [https://www.bing.com/search?form=MOZSBR&pc=MOZI&q=allegory+definition]
Keep an open mind. Maybe it was a piece of counter intelligence? Or a way to lure British West away from the colonies? Who knows? The British did bring an Indian force to Boonesboro...[https://revolutionarywar.us/year-17... Daniel Boone, the founder of Boonesborough.]

Thats an interesting theory. I have often wondered what all Washington knew and did as the nation was being founded. Alot of cool connections there.

Prather's book is worth the read just for his research alone...the consideration of his research is credible. There are many by the name of Swift during the time of the revolution, but only one so far with connections to KY from Alexandria, VA.

Yes I agree! His book has a lot of great sources for his research which I appreciate. Besides the Long John Silver connections the book was wonderful.
