Interesting. Have you tested it for magnetism? It looks a little like a meteorite.

No magnetism I just used a rare earth magnet even. I really think it was hand made by someone a long long period ago. Actually I'm home now and here is another very nice beautiful purple point or blade I found a couple days ago also!!

Nice looking point. I don't think your ball was knapped. It resembles geodes that I've found in Indiana & Kentucky.

From what I can see, it was formed that way, has you can see an outer cortex and a inner that looks different. If it had been napped or pecked, it would not have those deep dimples. It is a very cool stone and it could have been used as a game stone if it was found with other artifacts. Love the blade you found also.

Nice blade and on the round stone maybe put it in the rock forum and see what they say it might be.

Nice looking Blade, but your rock looks to be a Geode and a natural formation. Definitely not an Effigy or a Bannerstone.

although it looks like something man made it is not..............it is a natural rock form.......please take no disrespect ROCKateer....it is a cool looking formed rock and 'finders keepers' my friend.........

......WELCOME TO TNET!

in the days of rocks being tools every rock was probably looked at one way or another, yours has alot of pits on it i would think it would grab the flint well when i struck it to make a point so i would of tried it,back then they would see something trapped in a rock and try to bring it out, just like we do today as an artist maybe but some do not get the respect they deserve as we do not know what it was like during the stone age.i find myself picking up just rocks and think of how i could use it,then look for wear to see if someone else years ago thought the same way.

Well if it is coral where was it found? He doesn't say what state so it might of been a trade item that never got worked.

I find most all my things near and around the kansas river! Sorry for the delay Pal!!!! Hope this helps!

I have several of these that I have found, from small 1/2 inch to 7" in size still trying to figure out what they are as well.

It is a baby Moon! Just kidding, I have found similar coral fossils from the Devonian period in Ohio. You do not need to be near the ocean to find them, just where that particular formation crops out or where a glaciar dropped them.

Send the pics to Arizona State University and they should be able to Id it as a meteorite or not. They're pretty much the go to people for a good ID.

I'm pretty sure Charl nailed it with fossil coral.
