Dad & I spent 5 hours on 2 sites. 1 overgrown Roman Site on the hill where we had 10 scrappies & a Saxon Site that mainly produced buttons.

11 Scrappies in total
Jetton
Best Find - Saxon Clothes Fastener
Medieval Buckle Plate
Tudor Clothes Fastener
Dagger Chape
2 Cufflinks
Biggest pewter button I've found
Medieval Purse Bar bit
Bits...

Our best spots have now all dryed up, so for the next few months we will be scratching around for a lucky random.

A bit of everything, but any saxon find will make your day! Wish you luck for that hidden lucky spot this winter!

Crusader,

Good mix of finds...that's a lot of digging.

Regards + HH

Bill

It was when you consider the junk we cleared. The first half of the spot we did was covered with that 'green' waste. Nothing green about it!

Good news is that this first spot on the hill that is currently overgrown with weeds (some areas are really bad), will need killing off & ploughing in, in about Feb. So I'm guessing it will need a fairly deep turn. Its not one of our top sites but it will give us something to grid.

Nothing green about it! Your spot on with that statement Cru, as there's nothing that will wreck ones digging pleasure faster than digging in a field that's been covered in "Green Waste" Who ever sold that idea to the landowners should have the peanuts crushed, simple as that.

My hat goes off to you two for detecting and clearing a field, as I've been on some that it's a 25-40 to 1 ratio of digging trash and the payoff wasn't big enough to stay on the field.

What a great way of getting rid of the trash problem, grind, burn, mix, dump on the fields that feed us. Now throw sewer sludge into the mix and it gets really interesting....I would rather detect a pig farm any day! then again there was a pig farm with green waste and it has been deemed a total waste of time.:laughing7:

Thankfully its not that bad, its only happened recently & not for years.
Its only worth it if your in it for the long term & its on a good site. I would clear any amount of junk if the site demands it.

Looks like a typical day's work for you guys. Always love seeing those coins as I know that's something I have almost no chance of digging over here.
