Between this and the two nice arrow heads I've fond in the las two days, my luck has changed and it's going to be a good year. Getting better with the Ace 250. I've really gotten some good advice on the machine from folks here, learning the signals, and my holes are smaller. Thank you.

Found this about 6" down, rang as a nickle. I think it is a copper pin of some sort. A friend said it may have double as a necklace? The part above the pin clasp would slide over a neclace or a scarf? I'm not sure. The detail is nice, I have only washed it with soap and water.

Any ideas on age or exactly what it is would be greatly appreciated. How should I clean it up? Soak it in olive oil?

Thanks Folks!

Good gosh girl. How do you keep from breaking your long fingernails when you're digging in dirt. ;D

It looks like it has a boot clip on it. Horse riders would clip these to the cuff of their boots. HH

Hi, Country Girl!

Your find is half of a late Victorian two-piece, "butterfly" style dress buckle. The missing half would have been a mirror image of this one, and the two would have joined along the straight edge— something like this:

I break the nails every now and then, the dirt is the hard part. If you run your finger nails across a bar of soap before you dig dirt, the dirt comes off easy ;D.

Thanks PBK! I love it even more. I wonder if the other half is around somewhere? You bet I'll be looking. Nice job on the ID!

Awesome find, CG! It keeps getting better and better each time, huh? Keep em coming. ;D

Nice find Countrygirl, it is relics that are our history that really makes our hobby so interesting, kudos to PBK on the ID also.

CG, nice find. Can you post the arrowheads? I am a ex-arrowhead hunter.

Thanks River, I am psyched now that I've figured the new detector out. Funny I still find nails in some of the holes, but there is always something else there now that I can discriminate them out. Love it!

I really like finding the old relics, I agree it is a history lesson. I never knew about dress buckles. I can just imagine the fancy dress this was attached to. Thanks Don.
