Timekiller's Back!

Guy's it was so nice out today and the weather sounds bad for awhile so I pounded the river.Anyway I took some pics. of what I look for such as the 1600's earthenware and things like shell piles and indian pottery.I had a great get out today and it felt good to get back in to some colonial stuff.My finds look like they will be neat when I get them cleaned up.I also took a pic. of a tree that is probably one of the biggest ones I know left around these parts. The pics. don't do it justice as I had nothing to use for size but my cigarette pack I stuck on the side of the trunk.It is a huge oak if you could see it in person.

Awesome man! That looks about as peaceful as it gets, with colonial relics lying around to boot. You can hardly beat a day like that.

I don't know Pete, can't tell if that's a casting number impressed on the back which might help date what ever it is. There's such a good mix of dates; the pointed screws date after the 1790's for sure, but the buckle and pottery possibly earlier. Anyway, it's the whole scene there that is so very cool. There's nothing like an ancient tree to actually take you back in time, especially when it is on the water in an area steeped with history! Again, mighty nice seeing those pictures!

Yea Johnny I show what I keep so you have to disreguard the screws and things as they may have floated in on wood or something.Also from 4 places on the river as well Buddy.This one buckle has (United CARR.) The pewter piece does have a number 6 or 9 could be a G as well I guess depends on what way it's held.

OK, I see it now that you put the new pics. up and it sure is or at least looks like it to me.Any Ideas? Can you make out your back as to what it is stamped with ( Letter or Number)I've not cleaned this one yet.

it is exactly like yours; even has the 6 or 9 on the back with holes on either side for ?bails?
if used as a drawer pull

Thanks nice to know there is another.Wierd that they both are just alike like that.Thanks for your help.And I'm guessing early furniture as well. Looks like you get into some early relics with your buckles in the pics.


Hummm!,mine don't have holes in it or on it.There is one more thing funny about this deal and that is there were no more with mine and I guess yours either.You would think if it was off of a piece of funiture that they would have been more around with it.I guess you found no other pieces either?

this is the only one I found, was from a trading post dating 1810 - 1860 in southern Illinois, I also found a heart pendant similar to the one you had in another posting.

Yes I agree with your date range as this site was from around that time as well.But could also believe that what ever it came off of could be late 1700's when it was made.With the flowers design and all.The pendant site was more mid to late 1800's I figure.And a completely different river all together.
