Hello,

Here's my oldest dog-tag,found last fall at my regular field.Dog-tags were introdused to Berlin in 1832.They were all designed by the sculptor Franz Reinhold, until he died in 1877.
This item is a special one for a hunting dog.A dead rabbit lays in front of the dog. There were other patterns for blind peoples dogs and police dogs, too. All rare.
Size of mine:3,2cm x 2,3cm;made of brass

Greetings,Sven

another one

This one belonged to the dog of my grandma's mother.I found it in a locker at her kitchen, when I was a little boy.
Neukölln is an old part of Berlin, were I was born.

1832 dog tag Lafeyette, ind. police dog? or unruley dog?

Not sure my picture loaded. If it didn't, I'll try again. 1832 Lafayette Ind. Dog tag just came up after a big rain. Didn't even get to use my detector! :-) DSCF6418.JPG DSCF6418.JPG

I don't know about that date. Lafayette wasn't incorporated until later.

The date on that tag is actually 1882, not 1832 . . . .

These 1882 Indiana State issued tags are the most common pre-1900 dog tag known.

The first place to issue a tag for a dog to be affixed to their collar was Charleston SC in 1850.
