Here's the possible marker stone that was buried. By far the largest stone I've removed from the hole which is about 5ft deep now.

I think most who have dug somewhere, would like to know if a good buried marker isn't found by about 2-3 feet if they should totally abandon the dig... or if there is still a decent chance they are on the spot anyways.
Nobody knows what these guys were thinking when they buried it. But, some knowledge of others digging spots might help.
