1,000,000 Pennies to search.

I don't have them yet but I made an offer for them. There is a junior high school in Central Texas who is trying to raise some money by collecting a million pennies. When I was in the bank today giving them a bag of Wheaties for the pile, I stopped and asked the manager if I could make an offer for all the pennies when they get done collecting.The box which holds them all so far is 3 feet by 6 feet by 4 feet tall. There is a pile of pennies up over a foot . That's 18 cubic feet of pennies already. Hopefully I will need to hire some young,fresh eyes to help me sort through them.

Just out of curiosity, why did you give them "bag of Wheaties for the pile", when you obviously collect pennies; versus giving them a bag of newer pennies ?

Am I missing something ?

How are they raising money here; cashing in the pennies donated ?

The bag of Wheaties was for those smart cookies like yourself who actually read a post. I bought a $50 bag from a coin machine and lazily went thru it. After determining they had been previously searched, I took the opportunity to chum the water behind the boat and see what I catch. I haven't yet been successful enough at the penny game to quit my quest for silver. Thanks for reading the post carefully and busting my rump(my bride says it should be a regular occurrence). LOL, I was wondering the same thing glad someone asked and you explained. So are you joking about the 1,000,000 pennies as well or is this actually taking place. If so how in the heck are you going to get all of them home, do you have a pick-up truck or something. LOL I wouldn't let anyone help me search them unless I knew for sure that they were checking all of them for more than just wheaties(errors, etc...). Good luck

You know everyone in Texas has a pickem-up truck with a gun rack and a W/04 sticker on the bumper. I am serious about the pennies, I poked around in the case trying to stir them up but I couldn't tell much that way. It might take just take a truck to get them home. Cheers, Jim

1 million pennies? Wow, that's amazing. I haven't got to that point yet but I'm sure I'm on the way. Pennies don't turn me on like silver does.
